Eno2, 04 Jun 2024My wish for a future Find X Ultra are 3x LYT 900 sensors, a... moreWhy not then instead have 1x LYT-900 sensor, but "scrollable" optics? Hence you physically switch between the 18, 35 and 70mm fixed lenses with a scroll wheel like old fashion telephones.
Takes less space. Doesn't waste money on sub par ultrawide and 2x sensors. At least until someone manages to fit real zoom optics that can utilize the type 1 sensor without being too bulky for a smartphone.

It would be interesting to see a periscope camera with a focal length of 30.6mm (S21 Ultra), with an effective lens diameter = focal length/f-number of at least 8.42mm (Vivo X100 Ultra), a pixel size of 0.56 micrometer (Vivo X100 Ultra) and with a Bayer color filter array.
These are the best specs one can currently imagine for taking photos of distant objects in decent light conditions. I wonder whether there will be 10mm=1cm (effective diameter) periscope cameras in the near future. 8.42mm is already a big step because 6.5mm was the best specification for several years.
Travel zoom cameras like the Panasonic Zs80D had 20mm.

Still dunno why they don't allow binning and I think the JN1 may be a better sensor because manufacturers know how to utilize it better, V30 Pro's selfies are great.

I don't know why people are so obsessed with ultra wide and selfie camera. With UW, you mostly take pictures of landscapes and sceneries, where there is 90% plenty of light. The smaller sensor also helps with focal plane being bigger, costs lower, and no need for variable aperture. Selfies are mostly for documenting you were somewhere with someone. Most people will focus on this aspect and not pixel peep the minimal level of noise. I get that some people take pictures mostly in the form of selfies, but there's a market for that as well (Iphone, Honor...). The 2 most important cameras where the sensor and lens really matter are telephoto and the main cam and those are mostly getting upgraded these days. From a photographer's practical perspective, this is the best scenario.

We won't see even double anytime soon, let alone three.

Darth Caesium, 04 Jun 2024I just checked Trading Shenzen. Honestly an amazing site, I... moreI mean you can wait a few months, sell your current phone and then get the new one. That's the most logical way I think, the phones drop in price by like 200 euros sometimes, that's a lot of savings in just a few months especially considering it's far cheaper than the global version but yeah, it actually sucks that these phones aren't available on contract but welp at least people can get the phones globally in SOME way yk? I like these guys for that. I don't wanna pay cut throat prices from people who imported these phones and are selling for 50-60% more (some people in my country do that sadly).

Honestly an amazing site, I love how uncluttered and helpful everything is, their compatibility tool is really nice and helpful. Still, I can't get such phones on contract, which kind of kills off my chances of actually getting something like this when I doubt I'd be able to afford it upfront.

Darth Caesium, 04 Jun 2024For the ultrawide, you're right that a brighter apertu... moreYeah I get it you want more control but does the UW cam have enough bokeh even to make you use the variable aperture? lol, I feel like a larger aperture like f/1.6 or something would justify that but otherwise it'd be a waste of money and you'd even forget about it I think.
Hmm the selfie cam situation is indeed tricky but I think it's not just costs there must be something else like design constraints. Surely even if the size is similar the sensor must have some peculiarities that make Vivo and Oppo stop from utilizing the cam. Why else would Vivo have the V30 Pro with the JN1 but not their flagship X100 Ultra? Doesn't make sense. They have too many JN1s, in the X100 Pro, the Neo9, the V30 Pro so yeah it's gonna be cheap due to economies of scale for Vivo at least so them not using it seems weird if size is the same. They spend so much on IP69, why didn't they just go for IP68 then and get the JN1 in the selfie cam if it was cost related yk?
For the software, you can just use launchers, they're plenty cool and there's also some nice themes and stuff for phones you can just use easily if you don't like the base look much and I didn't even know about "neumorphism" before but WOAH that stuff looks great and I'm seeing it more and more nowadays, I saw it in a VST called "Soothe2", idk some examples online reminded me of that VST's design for some reason, maybe it's not neumorphic but it certainly seems similar enough to the designs i saw online. There's also Slate Digital's Fresh Air. And as I said, it's indeed going to be heavy at first but you're going to get used to it in a week. Think about it, even typing must've been tough for you at first but now it must be instinctive for you.
I mean I use my phone mostly indoors and I've seen matte screens to know that indoors, matte screens suck. I like watching vids and movies at night with dim lights and matte screens just suck at those situations at least for me, you might love it but it's just not for me. And yeah the durability is amazing I just wish it was separate from the coating. Oh and btw how's your screen faring? I'm using my S22 Ultra for like 3-6 months now without a screen protector (I didn't keep track when I got rid of it lol) and there's quite a few micro scratches that I can see in specific lighting when the screen is off/there's some liquid on it and the screen lights the liquid up. Otherwise it's fine. I take care of my phone and I've dropped phones like 1-2 dozen times in the past 5 years, a family member drops his phone a few dozen times every week lol so I think I take good care of my phone.
Oh btw, I don't think you'd have too many problems with getting the phone if you're so interested in it if you use something like Trading Shenzhen. I'm gonna pull the trigger on the Find X8 Ultra next year if it has variable aperture and better battery (5400-5600 mah battery cell should do fine), even if it isn't global. I'm used to tinkering things all the time so I think I'll be fine with the phone having some issues. I've had to face issues on the numerous Samsung phones I've used over the years (and still do) so it's not something new lol. People just have too much negative stigma cus it's Chinese. That's just rac*st. I hate that. No one's ever had perfect experience with electronics, it's been like that for decades. Be it lights, computers or phones. Everything has issues at one point or has imperfections. People just act up when something is Chinese nowadays. What IS a valid criticism is lack of Android Auto, I don't use it (cus I ride a motorbike lol) so it's not a problem for me at all.

jerem06, 04 Jun 2024With the disadvantage of having fewer updatesThat's the price you pay for getting an older phone and besides, you don't buy these phones for their software capabilities. And btw old software has too much stigma, it's not THAT bad, I used an S8 a year or two after it had no updates and apart from the horrendous battery life, the phone was plenty fast (for the time) and was nice to use.

jiyen235, 04 Jun 2024yeah the main cam having a variable aperture that's ev... moreFor the ultrawide, you're right that a brighter aperture could cause issues. Idk, I would like a bit more bokeh in some situations, but not others (hence why I had the variable focal aperture idea as well). Variable focal aperture is just something I'd love to have because it allows to have more fine grain control over the cameras, just like a real camera, but the automatic nature of the software also allows me to not HAVE to mess with the settings if I don't want to or don't feel like it. I can completely get why it's not necessary though, especially when it's not insignificant in terms of added cost, so I only just briefly entertained the idea.
The selfie is just so disappointing that I don't think they really have an excuse. The Samsung ISOCELL JN1 sensor is actually the same size as the Sony IMX615, it's just that being newer, it's more expensive, but it's actually not that expensive considering that it's used for lots of different things on lots of different phones across lots of different price ranges, including being used as a main camera for properly budget devices.
The Oppo software part, I don't know, there's just something too much, it's just too detailed to be easily digestible or easy on the eyes for me, even though I love non-minimalistic designs, especially neumorphic. It's perhaps something I could get used to, I'd have to see, and that's assuming I'd even be able to try out an Oppo device, judging by their lack of eagerness to sell their phones in the West.
Finally, for the Gorilla Glass Armour part, while the coating might be grainy (I don't know, I haven't tried a device that uses it), I love that it's measurably more scratch-resistant AND more shatter-resistant than anything else. It's genuinely really good, unlike Gorilla Glass Victus 2, which is so incredibly easy to scratch. My Google Pixel 7 Pro's Gorilla Glass Victus isn't bad at all, but I still feel like I have to baby it a bit, so Gorilla Glass Armour should be amazing.

Anonymous, 04 Jun 2024Imx890 already has successor, LYT700yes but it's more expensive. The IMX890 was made quite a while ago and used as a main cam for quite a few phones so it was cheap enough at one point to be used as a UW cam and then a telephoto cam. But the LYT-700 is a new sensor which is scarcely used so it's gonna have high costs. Nearly 0 chance for them to use that and it's impractical as well.
