GregLu, 06 Jun 2024When the product is slim and slimmer with the year ... yeah... moreI don't think that slimmer phones are prone to bending or cracking, considering that my Nokia 8 is thickest at 7.9mm on the camera glass and the overall thickness is between 6.8-7mm.

The problem with Apple is their implementation with their designs, so they can grift cash from brainwashed consumers for every design flaw on purpose, with scam so-called "repairs" by Apple Care.

Since when were hairline cracks free repairs??? I sold phones for years and never ever heard about that from a single soul.
      "Shocking" how unknown this was.

I still remember how easy it was to get my iPod Touch replaced back in early 2014 when the home button stopped working. This was probably still before Cook made those decisions.

If it IS *which I doubt* you could have got a replacement with Apple or your service provider. Unless you left it for weeks or months later, which then would have been on you. Tough.

Whether it is 3 days or 3 months, warranty period is warranty period and to violate that is something which even smaller brands don't risk in most places around the world with poor consumer protection laws.

My own experience with Apple's warranty related services has been very meager, but not great either. Their "Apple support staff" couldn't even give me clear answer on the phone, on whether I could safely swap my standard base power cable for a MacAir with an extension power cable (which used to be provided free of cost in the olden days, but the greed got into their bones) without asking me all the details from my Mac's purchase date, serial number, macOS version (what??), details of purchase receipt to something else which I forgot. Cut the call with their "geniussss" and instead picked up a 3rd party cable from Amazon for around half the sticker price and haven't had any issues for 15+ months now.

During Tim Cook era, he hired several executives from luxury brands that screwed up Apple retail, as one of them requires the Genius/support department to be profitable. It went downhill from there till today.

I was spoiled from using tough Nokias for years without screen or lens protectors. The first 15 I got a hairline crack the first time I dropped it on a wood indoor floor after 3 months. I learned my lesson that time. If you must use Apple, get those screen and lenses protectors first thing your phone is out of the box!

Typical Apple behaviour. Ask a shitload of money for doubtful goods (at least on side of cost versus real value) and then again squeeze even more money out of foolish customers who blindly follow this sect that only proclaim the belief of "how can I steal even more money from you without you noticing you're actually being scammed". It's making me sick but it's actually us, foolish customers, who agree to pay for all of that so who's to blame? Apple who just designed brilliant marketing and sales tricks to fool people? Or us who are too stupid to know its a scam and they just created a movement where people want to be a part of. They created a craving of belonging to an "exclusive" group of people.

                      1. The users overpaying for their products.
                      2. Apple geniuses incapable of repairing their lwn products. 🫢

I bet this is to anticipate the poorer QC for BoE panels that Apple will use. So instead of finding a better quality parts, trillion cheapskate company Apple decided to put the burden on their own customers.

I had a device with a bad screen that had turned yellow towards the end of the warranty period. They denied my claim simply because "the issue happened only when 3 months of warranty was remaining". I sold my device and never looked at Apple again.

It has (or at least had) the most lenient warranty program of all tech companies. Anything that was broken with the device, you could bring it in and they'd give you a free replacement.
