Hairline cracks on iPhone and Apple Watch displays are now a paid repair

Apple changed its warranty policy, this used to be a free repair until this week.

Hairline cracks appearing on a lot of Apple products coming from the factory now, probably bad manufacturing tolerances. If this was unusable then why would Apple go and change the terms of the warranty!

        It must've been my fault that's why it had such a crack already even before I purchased it. Now I'll have to pay an additional $600 to replace the screen for that problem that I've CLEARLY caused because I saw it from the very first time that I took the phone out of the box. 🙃

          Oh wow, maybe I wasn't careful because my newly-unboxed brand-new iPhone 15 Pro Max had a hairline crack on its display when I first took it out of the box.

          It must've been my fault that's why it had such a crack already even before I purchased it. 🙃

              Didn't even know you didn't have to pay for it at apple, good service before this happened I guess.

              Because all other brands in my country already ask money for hairline cracks.

              Even Samsung did if you had Care+

I am not sure why hairline cracks occur or how common it is in Apple products (I have never seen any of the products do this myself) but clearly it was not economically viable for Apple to replace screens that were generally fine because the users were paying nothing for it.

                I didn't even realize this was a thing!

                  I don't see the problem, Samsung doesn't cover this in their warranty either.

                  Wake up people, Apple is no worse or better than your own chosen brand.

                  Use common sense, and use a screen protector and case on your $1200 device...

                    It's already mentioned in the previous paragraph: AppleCare+.

                      Right when NVIDIA hit 3 trillion (USD) market cap, Apple made this move.

                      Apple would probably say this is so that they can make better phones. But is just for money, that's now capitalism works. Everything is about money, no matter if it's extorting clueless customers or buying slave-involved materials, they'd do it for money.

                                  Imagine if it was on Apple for causing it during the shipping.

                                    Imagine if it was Apple during the shipping that caused the hairline crack.

                                    "Oh, that's on the user. You'll have to pay us some money so that we can earn more- I mean, provide our customers with even better phones.
