I remember in the BadaOS era that the OS wasn't even settled that they cut support, lived barely 2 years.
Also, Tizen is not really dead, considered is still used a lot on smart TVs and appliances.

It's not like the de... moreI read from notebookcheck news that actually they are software bricking devices by not allowing pairing to new phone(or if you factory reset your old phone you cannot anymore connect watch to that because Samsung is not allowing pairing their watches to "new" phones).
It is not just that you cannot download software to watch, you cannot use it if you cannot pair it.

such watches are great for reading notifications. if you want real fitness tracker with battery that lasts week+, go for garmin fenix

It's not like the devices are going to completely be non-functional - which is what an actual "software brick" would be (e.g. what Spotify is doing to the Car Thing). This is more like how Nintendo have now shut down the eshop on 3DS and WiiU. No longer able to download games, but the device itself still works.
They're closing down the appstore which does mean no more downloading of third party apps, so yes if you ever have to reset the device say goodbye to anything not pre-installed on the watch, which is definitely horrible for a product that's only 4 years old in the GW3's case. However the core services like payments and notifications will still function for the time being, although I'd definitely not be surprised if it only takes another year for Samsung to eventually stop supporting Tizen in their galaxy wearable app...
Definitely horrific device support from Samsung, so I still agree with your core sentiment - only disagree with calling this decision a "brick".

You think it is okay to software brick fully functioning hardware?
Because Samsung is not only stopping giving people who bought the hardware software support(like security fixes etc), ability to download their bought apps, they are literally going to prevent people for setting their smartwatch on a new phone!
I have devices far older than these and i could still in 2024 pair them to my new phone.
If your car, television, phone, smartwatch, earbuds would stop working by oem which software bricks it would you be upset or just buy new one from the same brand?

Apple doing the same. FE means premium device for lower price with lower specifications. It's the same as Watch 4? Probably, sound like that, but with Watch FE people can get new 3 - 4 years updates, some new features which will not be in Watch 4 for lower price. Of course i agree Samsung could to add some more new features like 2GB RAM, memory maybe and etc., but overwide it's not bad offer for people who want new Samsung device for lower price and with lower specifications. Will see if this offer was good by sold out devices stats.

My mother just bought Watch4 and she have the A41 that has android 12 and wont get new updates and support ends or ended.
I hope it will work with it and dont be affected with the software bricking

News from few days ago: Samsung is going to software brick all of the tizen based watches by not only giving ability to download apps in 2025 september(even paid what you have bought) but even going to deactivate ability to pair our own hardware to new phone.
I hope European union or someone would sue Samsung for software bricking perfectly functioning devices by even not allowing to pair for new phone.
My Galaxy Watch, Flip 5 and my 2019 tv from Samsung are going to be last devices from Samsung that i own.
