... moreIt doesn't, because your statement is not correct. The Series X with optical drive costs $50 more than the all-digital one. The Digital Edition saves you 10% vs the standard Series X, if the drive isn't of any interest.
The $299 Series S (512GB) does not have optical drive. It never did.
On the Xbox Series S/X you can still play older Xbox, Xbox 360 and Xbox One games from your digital library. In addition to Series X with optical drive being able to play several older generation titles from discs.

MakeMotoBetterAgain, 10 Jun 2024nobody pays 600 for a console, period.You CAN spend 600 USD for a PC but it won't be as fast or powerful as a PS5 or Series X|S.
You can stuff a 5700G, 32GB of DDR4 3200 and a 1 or 2TB SSD in there.
Or 5600X + RX 6600 (or Arc A750), 16/32GB DDR4 and 1TB NvME and a 512/256 SATA.
If your going 500-700, theres no room for DDR5. I would only get DDR5 if your budget is 850+

How does this make any sense, when you can buy the one with optical drive for 299. So this is less features for 50% price hike? What a deal!! So now all your Xbox one/360,original game collection can not be played, but at least you pay 50% more for this amazing deal. You cant buy second hand games too, but at least you pay 50% more. You cant play blurays, but hey, it is worth it if you pay 50% more...
How on earth this makes any sense?

That said I wouldn't get a console since I'd need a PC anyway
