11 June 2024
Analyst Jeff Pu believes that this device will be ready for a late 2026 launch, though others have suggested 2027.

Apple failed with 5G modems a multi trillion dollar company which facing 50 million fine from EU for every single day oeying laws of DMA.
They failed with Apple cars aka project titan where they in 10 years spend much more than its healthy.
Whole world could benefit from that ammount of money they flushed to toilet for nothing.
What do you think their folding phones will do???
Nothing just like Apple VR where even MetaQuest 3 for 600 does more tricks and better than Apple for 4000 plus another 1000 for accesories.

An outward folding phones by Huawei.
So what else kind of folding phone do you expect Apple will make???
A 4 times foldable or a phone which will have full screen both sides???
Man WTF kind of joke you try to say.

People also attribute the teardrop hinge to Huawei when it was a design taken from a Lenovo laptop that Motorola repurposed and was first to use on a foldable.

Unfortunately, Apple will falsely get the credit for this just as people have falsely given Huawei credit. That's the benefit to having a more popular brand with consumers.

A phone needs to be pocketable and comfortable while in the pocket.
Having an Outward Fold is the correct choice. I have said this for more than a decade ago when I was the original designer. Huawei followed, Samsung did not.

The only "problem" was that the technology was not quite there yet. At least it needs some years in the labs to figure it out, which it had not done back then. Maybe it is ready now, maybe it is Apple who has figured it out. The technology in question is to have a screen that is as hard and scratch resistant as regular glass (Moss p6) but at least flexible for a 0'-170' fold. The inward folding phones have to contend with an extra amount of angle and creasing which ruins the concept, and the immersion. That is why Samsung and the rest are wrong. And potentially Apple would be correct, the way Honor/Huawei are.

You think Samsung doesn't? They are counting on it. Samsung is providing the panel for Apple's foldable. They want the ifold to be successful because it will bring more attention to foldables.

Samsung, Huawei, Vivo, 1+, Motorola, Xiaomi and Honor are not pushing foldables to the 100 million by 2030 projection on their own. They need Apple to get involved. It will solidify this category, and everyone will benefit from more sales.

Samsung is being lazy to command the folding market space by making small changes every year . When Apple starts making foldables it will straight away go to number one and Samsung will regret all the missed chances over the years to offer a solid product and be number one

The flexible outer display can handle impact much better than the rigid outer display of usual folding phones. They are also lighter and slimmer. However, they are still prone to scratches. Tried Honor V Purse for few months and was surprised how compact it feels for a foldable compared to the heavy and ugly brick such as Galaxy Folds. It's a shame that they didn't come with flagship grade processor and global ROM.

Would be more interested in a cheaper iPhone. Even the SE is still not to be considered budget, more like upper mid range with its price.

                          Ah yes, more scratches!

Hmmmmm. Not sure I'm buying this. I do believe the outer design has advantages and the Mate Xs (not sure why we skipped to the 2) looked good, but exposing the screen would be too risky. Slab phones can't handle falls. I think the 360 hinge is a better approach. I'm not an iphone person, but I'm certainly interested to see how they prevent damage from drops or even putting it in your pocket.

Either way, the ifold will outsell every other foldable by 5-6 devices, but it will raise the awareness and I think all fold devices will benefit.

As someone who's been using a Honor V Purse for over a month now, I'd say Apple is smart to be following in Huawei and Honor's footsteps in the outward folding display. I've been thoroughly impressed with how durable the screen is even after not babying the phone. I only use the case included in the box.

Did Huawei already have a working time machine on their hand.. this is really concerning.. no wonder US ban them./s

There won't be a foldable iPhone, Apple already cannot handle their existing OS, expanding on it seems like a bad idea

The OG Huawei Mate X was always the best foldable design. Apple is taking design cues from Huawei.
