Each company trying to position their products in a new, rapidly growing and emerging market space. For those who may not know, the majority of phones were not portable, but physically installed in a vehicle, boat, limo, etc. The manufacturers of the day included OKI, Motorola, Fujitsu, EF Johnson, Mitsubishi, Panasonic, NEC, Sony, Novatel, Audiovox, Westinghouse, and many others I can't remember. Mobile phones were programmed manually by physically implanting a pre programmed chip into the units transceiver typically installed in the trunk of a vehicle. Not sure how Apple, and Samsung are the big 2 left standing. Motorola was a premier brand product one day, somebody explain wtf happened?

My Open is by far my favorite device. When people see it they're amazed. Then ask, "wth is this?", and I tell them. Then they're like wow, didn't know they existed, I'm gonna look into them. But, probably never do. It's crazy man.

When I heard that samsung was doing away with the s pen on the z fold 6 I was blown away.how can they say they are producing an ultra model fold 6 without the digitizer for the s pen and still call it an ultra model.i truly feel like that will be a deal breaker for majority of consumers because the fold phones scream not only gaming but also productivity for the business side of consumers.consumers are starting to worry that samsung is running out of ideas and are just basically producing last year's model of phones and calling it the next model.please samsung don't get rid of the s pen for the fold 6.if you truly care about sales and your customers you will keep the s pen especially on an ultra model of the fold 6.consumers would as well sacrifice a little thickness to keep a very good battery life on a cellphone.i have always been a lifelong supporter of samsung phone and products and hope that samsung stays on top of the world with their new innovations.im just worried as a very big supporter that they are starting to just copy last year's model of phones with very minor changes and calling it the new year's model.consumers want something new and a reason to upgrade and or choose samsung over other competitors.

Why is the "Holy Grail" for manufacturers is to see how THIN they can make a phone?? I would GLADLY sacrifice some thickness to have a z fold that doesn't go dead in 4 HOURS!

Even the used to be good Chinese brand OnePlus has devolved into basically an Oppo clone with its software. Competition is good and it pushes the big dogs like Apple and Samsung to really upgrade their devices and innovate but as long as the Chinese market stays stubborn with its awful software they're never going to be real competitors.

jiyen235, 15 Jun 2024damn you literally summed up 50-75% of the population with ... moreThere are parts of the world (cough USA), where your real options are down to 2 brands - Samsung and Google.
Oneplus took a huge nosedive in last 5 years, even though it was a promising alternative back in the day.
Motorola is barely present. HTC is all but gone. Sony can barely be found anywhere. Asus is not available via any legit retailer. And the rest of Chinese brands have never been present here to begin with. So ability and willingness to keep playing in specific market plays a huge role as well.

Other brands release an update which breaks something and then you wait 6 months for the fix and sometimes it never arrives.

Seriously, that's what has happened. People just scoff at other brands even if they are objectively superior. Kinda sad really, like a Stockholm syndrome kind of thing, they either like whatever they're given, be it good or bad, or they force themselves to think that whatever they're given is great to justify their purchase.

Diagon X, 14 Jun 2024Is there a single thing that the z fold 6 does better than,... moreBranding, branding, branding. At least if you compare it with another foldables that available in my country (Oppo Find N3 and Vivo X Fold 3 Pro), Samsung is literally worse in almost EVERYTHING except in software part which is comparable (Samsung has DeX which gives a plus point for extremely small amount of people). But hey, not everyone understand about tech. The only thing on their mind is just "Apple and Samsung = good, everything else = worse).

It's funny because the only thing Samsung fanboys can brag about this phone is just the amount of sales.
Having the highest sales in the world does not make Toyota better than Ferrari or Rolls Royce.

Anonymous, 14 Jun 20244400mAh is still laughably small for this kind of device. I... moreI'm also a huge fan of competition. But when you see large popular sellouts killing off competition because of SamApple, you wonder whether it's even worth competing in the first place. If you look closely at LG's exit from the smartphone market, you notice both MKBHD and Mrwhosetheboss made an SEO clickbait fest on "Why people don't buy LG phones anymore". It's because of sellouts like them that cause LG to surrender and leave the field. If we really want to embrace competition, we can't give our attention to sellouts like them just because they have millions of subs. They can make cringe content and still get lots of clicks for it. That kind of attention needs to stop permanently!

                                        My thoughts:
It'll sell quite well globally, not simply for no competition of products of much higher specs but simply because of reliable and accessible support for hardware/software defects/issues/bugs/security patch update timing!

The design is still 'professional' or classy and not too unique ... over time a fancy design gets old VERY fast. Trends or fashion on anything dies VERY quickly. Even if its a classic - the only TRUE classic that continues to sell well over a long time is due to slow iterative design changes.

                                        Example:
Porsche 911 .. for the past 40 years their design is iterative and classic - but NOT the performance when owned and used. There are a few years here and there where generational design changes only have very short or barely noticeable performance advantages or increases but when USING the product it either, turns better, grips the road better, less issues on hardware requiring maintenance, etc.

I think this is the hardware engineering motto that Samsung has been following over time.

Also significant design changes have huge cost/expenses and intensity on R&D on the balance sheet. Samsung has HUGE profits and readily accessible cash over $12 Billion USA currently and growing. We have no idea what their saving it for ... but it may be a few short years before we see a major design change across the board.

we'll see and I think the Z Fold Premium will debut in first quarter of 2025.
