andi54, 18 Jun 2024Shame I can't do the "Sure Brad" gif but, he... moreI've had multiple Google devices dating back to the nexus days, and while the camera sucked on nexus compared to pixel the software was at least stable. Pixels began to downward trend of hardware and software issues, the issues were before they're switched over to Tensor. And once they did the hardware really lagged behind the competition.
I don't have a problem with Tensor being a weaker chip I have a problem with Google trying to sell that at $900-1000, they have no business there.
A good processor isn't just about gaming. It's gives the phone longevity as more demanding software comes out over time, it gives better battery life and image processing, ensure your phone doesn't overheat doing intense tasks like photos and video capture.
I hope the shift to TSMC will bring improvements but I'm not holding my breath for it based on google's past history.

Tensynos is not even $60.
8g4 is tipped to be near $240.
Just by switching SoC, the bill of materials would increase near $200.
What would force google to perform many cuts to keep price same of 8th gen.

Anonymous, 17 Jun 2024You're huffing some heavy copium if you think it'... moreShame I can't do the "Sure Brad" gif but, hey-ho...
Clearly, you probably have some sort of misplaced loyalty to inanimate objects, & the multi-national corporations that make them, & you're triggered!
How old are you, 12?
It's definitely not copium, as I don't game & a photographer so, I don't like the relentless SE Asian obsession with skin-lightening which, generally, means overexposure, awful skin-tones & photographs looking like trash.
And yes, they are indeed bargain bin phones & I don't know why you're saying that, like it's a bad thing? My guess is, again, it's probably your age & believe phones are status symbols.
I wouldn't recommend buying a Pixel at launch, as they depreciate fast & they soon become a real bargain.
More than the processor, though...Apple, Samsung & Chinese OEMs are all moving to larger screens, with their next flagships so, that's clearly the direction of travel for the industry so, to fly in the face of that & make your largest flagship smaller, a massive misstep.
From an objective point of view, though, if you're outsourcing your manufacturer of S.O.C.s, to an OEM(Samsung)with inferior technology, manufacturing processes, & lower production yields, than the industry leader, it stands to reason, the 1st genTSMC Pixels, will be a marked improvement.

It seems to me that every time a tipster wants to embellish a minor point, a leaked SUPPOSED benchmark is released.
'This is the first time the Pixel 9 Pro XL moniker has been revealed through a certification/benchmark listing. Take a look at the "FAKE" details.'
It's true, I inserted the word FAKE into the comment.
Why I have a problem is that Tensor G3 is Nono Core, 9 Cores
Upgrade is moving forward, this retrograde step if the article is to be believed means Google has abandoned the better and UNTRIED variations that are on offer using 9 Cores to essentially do a Qualcomm 6S Gen 3 and tweak the 2022 Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC
https://nanoreview.net/en/soc-compare/qualcomm-snapdragon-8-gen-1-vs-google-tensor-g3
The problem I have is I don't accept the Tensor G4 is Octocore

Google could have used the exynos 2400 as a reference as that's closer to snapdragon 8 gen 3 but they didn't. Honestly pixels are just bargain bin phones with a Google branding slapped on it.

The issue is with the bootloader and control. Mediatek and Snapdragon chips do not want to unlock it and provide low level access to their chips. Look on XDA in the forums. The one thing Google has done by making their own chips is they control the bootloader and low level access making it the base for Android development. You can put whatever overlay you want as a company developing for your device.

Google should have used the Vanilla Pixels to develop the Tensor SoC's whilst simultaneously releasing the Pro Pixels with the latest Snapdragon 8 SoC.... A Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL with Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 would be great..... The Pixel 9 with the Tensor G4 would continue the SoC's gradual development.

I love pixel phones, I don't want to believe these scores here because it's like 2 years behind, even the snapdragon 8gen2 is better than these let's just hope it's just rumours even the Huawei pura 70 ultra scored more than these.

With every new leak, just reinforces further, that this is the year to skip a new Pixel. Supposedly XL but, much smaller screen than the 8 Pro & this is final year, we'll be seeing the crappy Samsung/Exynos based Tensor chips. Next year's Pixel 10s will be made by TSMC so, we'll really see what Google can do, when not crippled by inferiority SOCs.
I traded in my 7 Pro, as Google offered me stupid money for the trade in & offered the 8 Pro well under $800 a few months back, as a Pixel fan.
I needed to get in sync, just in case the P10s are really gamw-changers but, I'm happy with the 8 Pro. The nine series is just a stop-gap & a year to miss...
