NeonHD, 24 Jun 2024I believe the correct take here is applauding the EU for it... moreI don't agree with the EU in this case or how they want to apply it. No where in the business world can someone come on your property/platform and direct that platform consumers to their own without paying a fee. We see it everyday in trade shows. Vendors can sell their goods on a trade show but they trade show organizer get their fees. That's how it operates for every business.

The problem some folks have is to use Apple's platform, (listed on the app store, have visibility, access to Apple's users, direct them outside of Apple's platform to avoid paying Apple nothing). The biggest obstacle in tech is customer acquisitions, customer acquisition cost a lot of money, and folks want to be able to come on Apple's platform that Apple created, cared for and spend billions a year to nurture for free. You don't want to pay Apple a fee fine, then don't be on the platform. If that's the way the EU wants to play it then start charging businesses millions to be listed on the app store.

Apple's response to this is as expected, they believe they are following the law as written. The problem government is having is how to write laws that will not encroached on companies proprietary rights. It's quite clear the issue the EU have with Apple are those fees. How do you tell a company they can't charge for their stuff (they can't). It is not written in the law, which is why the EU is having to say they want to apply the spirit of the law.

I believe the correct take here is applauding the EU for its efforts.

Unless you're a shareholder for those specified companies (or even worse, a shill for those companies), I honestly don't see how you could fault the EU for its efforts. Keep doing you, EU.

I am saying this cus I can imagine this same news article being posted on an Apple news site where people label the EU as a "meddler", which is not true.

        👏🙂

EU does everything to get rid of American companies from European market, however whole Europe sells Chinese products without hassle nor higher rate taxes. I presume China lobbies pay loads of money to keep things as they are.
