I have a 1.7 gHz dual core Xperia Sp and it runs everything in the play store just as smooth as my Galaxy S4. I see no point in having a 3gHz CPU on a phone with a software, be it iOS, Android, or Windows 8, that cannot bring out its full potential.

Intel Haswell starts at 349$,but even the most powerful arm processor cost mere 28$.So if you build a phone/tab with haswell it'll cost beyond 1500$(including profit).

Android is based upon Linux, with has included support for multicore processors for a very long time and multiprocessing since it's inception.

Now, let's talk about your reference, the Motley fool reference a benchmark without a link. Further, if you search the web, there are further references to the Antutu benchmark without any official source.
This raises two questions:
1. Who was running the benchmark?
2. What device was the benchmark being run on.
Now let me provide you with some insight. A common practice of some software and hardware manufacturers is to customize the hardware or software so that it performs higher on the benchmark test than it would otherwise. This got so bad on the TDP test in the database world about 10-15 years ago that people in the industry would ignore the results because nobody else could get close to the same performance results once the hardware/software platform was released to the public.
So, until independent 3rd parties provide test numbers on production sample or production devices, for me, this is just Intel's giant marketing machine at work.

Read about the technology Nokia acquired with it's Smarterphone technology. Smarterphone OS is also Linux based and has been implemented in Asha 1.0 on their Nokia Asha 501 phone. The specs of the 501 are meager by today's standard, yet the phone performs just fine.
I agree, let's hope the design engineers get it right.

All these people making comments about heat and increased power consumption really need to learn how to read properly. As for the increased clock speed, it's only natural that a person would want faster, more powerful processors. Unless you live in a technological standstill, this is the way technology is going. Deal with it.

Not long now before laptops become obsolete and ALL you need is a mighty phablet that can do dual boot of Win 8 (Not RT) and Android and a bluetooth keyboard. Yes, I'm talking about the future Galaxy Note series, maybe Note VI or 7 and above. Or maybe, just maybe, Note V (2015), since the youm flex OLED display is about to break cover. The future is ever closer.

Galaxy S3 - 50 hours endurance 4.8" screen
Galaxy S4 - 62 hours endurance 5.0" screen
Sure the batteries are getting bigger but so are the screens and the resolutions.
These new processors ARE more efficient.

everytime a new chip comes out, they claim it uses less power and yet batteries for these newer phones keeps getting bigger and bigger while battery life keeps getting shorter.

I cant believe all the S T U P I D comments about heat and battery life.
The manufacturing technology is getting better so these processors actually use less power and therefore create less heat.
Just at the SGS4 is more efficient and cooler than the SGS3 which is more efficient and cooler than the SGS2 which is ......
Requirements for a bigger battery are more to do with bigger screens not more powerful processors.

does it really have to be around 10,000mAh for the battery to last a day? coz I didnt miss that it said 25% LESS power consuming. Wouldnt it mean that around 3,500mAh~4,000mAh should suffice somehow?
And I'm not sure if you really know what youre talking about because less power consumption means less heat right?
why would it need a cooling system?
