Sorry people, but a cheap iPhone can only be a success.
It will snare younger people who balk at paying for the latest iPhone and a new generation will walk around with these.
It will likely be a stripped down iPhone 5. Perhaps a slower dual core, 5mp camera, and the same 4 inch screen. iOS has been proven to run just as well on older iPhones, and iTunes will give all the apps and music and video people desire.

Seems a foxxconn chinese copy, cheap iphones are obsolete as ios do not support cheap devices. While android is design to work in all devices perfect. Iphone fans are rare now jajaja. Android is the KING.

If iphone 5 only have dual core processor against quad core or octa cores of some droids, then what more with this upcoming budget iphone. It might only have a single core and 512MB of RAM, and just about 200 ppi pixel density. Remember, the specs should be lower than iphone 4 or 4S otherwise it will never be called a budget phone.

If they launch a cheap iPhone, they'll torpedo their only trump-card, which is the high-quality-brand image. If they don't then they'll overflood the market with expensive iPhones until they won't be able to sell many per update. Apple is a walking corpse of a company.

This is destined to be a great success, but a massive fail on the long run.
Apple now seels because of the massive hype of being the best, the phone which has the best performance, makes no compromises and most importnantly costs the most!!
Most of the iphone owners outside the US, buy it mostly to show off, that they are reach and can afford the most expensice phone, or at least what is easily recognised as the most expensive phone.
This is the prime reason that they choose the firm, only the elite buyers can afford.
When the firms opens to the lesser classes, at the beggining there is goind to be a massive inlfux of new customers and mostly of the poor fellows that always wanted an ihpone but they could never afford it.
The whole firm will lose its prestige, as an exotic car manufacturer will lose their prestige when they make an affordable car anyone can buy.
Apple will have to make some compromises to reduce costs, the cheap phone will not be able to perform as good as the best, its disadvantages will quickly become obvious to all and all the cheap iphone owners will be marked as the poor ppl who cannot afford the proper one.
They will regret ther acquisition, both because of the lower performance and of the lower status prestige.
Buying the cheap iphobe will not bring any status elevation, except maybe in some third world countries.
This seems like a desperate last cash in from Apple, the beginning of the end...

Why not make the 4s a low cost? For 349$ ! It will still have the premium feel apple had and has !!! Plus it will increase their market share so the new iPhone 5s or 6 or whatever they call it should retail for 649$ iPhone 5 for 499$ and 4s for 349$
