A lot of folks (not just Indians) think of iPhones as a status symbol. As people have more disposable income they will splurge on more expensive products to improve their lifestyles and perceived statuses to impress their social peers. Utility-wise you can do the same with iPhones or Android phones.

Apple can never be successful in India because of "Jugaad".
No one is willing to spend 1000$ worth in Rupees to get shitty battery life, except on the pro Max!
That's why Xiaomi will always be king in India.

If Apple has to sell more numbers in India it should get pro series price under 100K and base models at 50-60K. Also an entry level modern SE at 30K. If they are allowed to get their official refurbished phones at lower prices it would kill android phones. Currently older base models are becoming affordable like 13 at 40K, 14 at 50-55K. They should sell their older pro series like 14 Pro and Pro Max at 75K, 85K

Many of the people who buy iphone buy them from people who import it from US, Canada and UK. The price is still cheaper by Rs 10000-50000 in pro models.

India is one of the world's most unequal countries. While someone can buy an iPhone in India for close to $1000, many more people can't easily afford even a $100 cell phone.
If Apple wants to have a dominant position in India, the first thing they need to do is to reduce the gap between rich and poor in India.
But Apple won't be able to make India a dominant market because American companies can't control the Indian economy.

India is a price conscious market and $700+ is not a small amount for most. Old generation Iphones 13 - 14 price is getting into affordable territory (₹50-60k) and iphone 15 price is lesser than S24 now. Iphone sales will be getting more traction going forward. Nowadays even Chinese flagships costs more or less same.
