The phone will have a similar footprint, but there are some key differences.

Anonymous, 24 Jul 2024Are you actually arguing for curved screens? That trend has... moreFor someone using an ultra curved phone for 3+ years, a of these seem like such a nitpick. I use a screen protector, just not a glass one as I spent a bit more on a gel screen protector and that's that. I use dark mode so the color distortion isn't an issue except when I'm reading a pdf which doesn't even total to 1% of my overall usage. I don't consume content on my phone so again, the colors not a major issue. The number of accidental touches that's ever happened to me is so low it's negligible. It sucks that every manufacturer just started copying Samsung in terms of flattening the curve and the curve displays are now on cheaper phones as a way to attract the midrange customers which I am nof.

I'd be giving up on a comfortable phone to any of these boxy flat display one which is merely a flex to show that they can get the screen to body ratio lower which I don't care about when I'm using my phone every day. I would've upgraded this year if not for all these boxy phones which is why I plan on using this till I can't.

Anonymous, 24 Jul 2024Are you actually arguing for curved screens? That trend has... moreI understand the visual problems that curved screens can create and I am NOT denying that. I personally don't have a problem with flat screens if they aren't too big or at least are 2.5d/slightly curved glass like the Xiaomi 14 Ultra.

I personally don't have too much problem with the color issues on my phone because if I DO watch a movie or something, it has letterbox bars/is in 21:9 so exactly the curved parts are blacked out and I can control the lighting at home which can minimize reflections. But yeah I totally get when it can be problematic and I even listed them in my original comment. Oh and btw I have no issues installing protectors, they're 50% more expensive but you don't change the protector every few months right? Mine lasts for like a year at least so 20 bucks a year isn't anything too bad I'd say.

And yes! Flat sides are uncomfy, my S22 Ultra is larger than the 14 Pro Max but when I held it I felt like i was holding a brick! I tried holding an S23 Ultra and it was horrible, the curves aren't nearly curvy enough, the S22 Ultra (which basically copied the Note20 Ultra's perfect design for the body) has great comfort for a large phone. Curves matter.

jiyen235, 24 Jul 2024I want to know who in their right mind would want everythin... moreAre you actually arguing for curved screens? That trend has finally been laid to rest. It has only one benefit and that's a narrower overall body. Everything else about them is bad: picture and color distortion, glare, fragile, and for those who want screen protectors it's a nightmare.

I completely agree with you on the flat sides. It's more uncomfortable. Much more. The article even has a typo in it at the end about having a smaller chance of leaving a mark on your palm. Flat sides WILL leave a mark, opposed to curved sides on the frame.

I want to know who in their right mind would want everything to be flat. Flat screens? Yeah I get it, no reflections and better durability, but that comes at the cost of comfort, especially on android phones where you'll be swiping left or right using gestures a lot.

But flat back/sides? WHY? Cameras have solved this issue for decades, h*ck I should say more than a century. I don't care if you make the ugliest phone as long as it's comfortable to hold, if your phone is neither comfortable to hold (due to its sides) nor comfortable to use (due to large screen that's not curved) then why should I even use your phone? If I'm a m*sochist I'd go do some CBT or BDSM or something. Seriously man what's going on?

Google and Samsung are basically like following Apple without thinking about the consequences. Monkey see monkey do kinda thing lol. Chinese ROMs copying Apple is not fine at all but at least you can just use a different theme or something, if you buy a Google or Samsung phone you can't change the hardware, cases just add thickness and weight so imagine carrying all that. YIKES. Even Apple's started to curve the sides and NOW they follow the trend that Apple tried starting back during the iPhone 12 days? Yeah, no thanks. I'll vote with my wallet and not buy any of this stuff. I'm just gonna go buy a Fairphone cus these brands seem to be way too greedy and anti-consumer.

Unfortunately, its a "no" from me this time...... lets hope the Pixel 10 does ditch Tensor and shows something progressive in terms of design and function. Its got to happen eventually...

Obviously they have wanted to make it look more like the iPhone. That may be a working strategy.

First, Google should start treating customers better, then maybe in two or three years we will see a decent Pixel. Using customers as free Beta Testers for their own money is not cool.

What does it matter how the backside looks like?

We look 99.99999% of the time the front screen, that's all.

And Pixel 9 still has that overheating, battery sucking and slow as molasses Tensor.

Just Wait for Pixel 10 next year and hope that Google doesn't muck it up too.
