It's been 6 years and they haven't even managed to grab 2% of the market.
They are profitable for OEMs, yes. But that's because they're sold for twice or triple the price they cost OEMs to make.
That's why OEMs are making them. The profits of those help cover up the losses on the featureless flagships. If you took away the profits generated by the absurdly overpriced Z Fold, the death of the S line-up in sales at the hands of TM Roh would become abundantly clear.

If folds were not profitable Samsung would not be on their 6th gen z fold. If foldables were a waste of resources then the chinese phone makers would be be dumping millions of dollars into the development of the best folds on the market.

Good that Apple is now trying to make a foldable. Hopefully Samsung will feel threatened by this and start to up their foldable game as they are currently being demolished by the chinese brands.

These "rumors" about Apple making foldables are pathetic. Foldables are a joke and don't even have high sales. If they do it it will be a failure and no one will buy it. The future that the Jetsons predicted is still a long way off.

Back to topic I think year 2026 foldable phone tech is mature enough. Apple join in just right in time as always. That’s why their sell in sky rocket. Should I try switch from my Samsung S24 if Apple make foldable phones.
