No excitement at all, because it does not mean anything for all current devices.
(You will be lucky if you receive this update for your phone.)
Update news for various device cause more buzz.

I am more concerned with the massive security issues that have plagued Android from the beginning. Sure Google corrects them with little publicity in updates, like recently, but with the popularity of all things Google and Android has come lax privacy and security concerns. Everyone focuses on the window dressing of screens, speed, camera and so called apps (most of which are over rated), without a care for malware, or inbuilt spyware. It is instance gratification of playing with a new toy without any idea what the toy is really doing. In business, we will not have an Android device until they get serious about security and privacy.

techknow, 17 Jul 2013Come on Google we want the 5.0 klp. Enough of the jb varian... moreInstead google is too worried about restricting your apps2SD, plug-in support (if BB can afford it, I'm sure google could as well..or at least NOT block it), reading straight from storage, codec support (OEMs sometimes fix it), telephone function (OEMs also to the rescue with smartdialer), and map functions.
I'd be excited about a google update if they STOPPED TAKING THINGS AWAY.

AnonD-27765, 17 Jul 20134.3 will bring minor improvements from 4.2. 5.0 will bring ... more "overhaul to the decade-old skeumorphic UI of Android."
Aren't you confusing Android with iOS? :)
Anyway the HOLO UI is not even 2 years old, ignorance at its finest.

There is nothing more to add. Android has peaked too fast. The jump from 720p to 1080p was way too fast. I mean, only a matter of one year. It will be ridiculous if they go further beyond 1080p and 5" as the norm for flagship smartphones. What needs to be done is system optimization and UI overhaul. Android's UI is so messy. It's a mishmash of flat and skeumorphic design. It's so inconsistent, unintuitive and not user-friendly.

Anonymous, 17 Jul 2013"We took if for a spin, but, didn't find too much new ... moreThe major/most obvious differences between 4.1 and 4.2 are
Lock-screen widgets
"Photosphere" panorama photo
Support Multiple User Account for Tablet
and of course some Bug fixing and performance enhancement
There are many minor enhancement as well, go check on this, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A...sion_history
Although, as you say, they are not Huge enhancement/different between 4.1 n 4.2. But THAT IS WHY THEY ARE 4.X AND STILL CALL JB RIGHT? If only bug fixing/very minor change released, you will only see smth like 4.1.1 to 4.1.2 and etc. That is the difference between Major upgrade/enhancement, Minor upgrade/enhancement and bug fixing/very minor change release.
The "numbering" things is known as "software versioning". This technique is a standard in software industry which is recognized and widely used in software industry to assign either unique version names or unique version numbers/alphabets to unique states of a software and it is used in EVERY SOFTWARE like your web-browser (IE9, IE10), game, Photoshop, Microsoft office and etc.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S...e_versioning
Thus, we shouldn't expect much from Google on the newer Android since it is just from 4.2 -> 4.3. And Android is in fact very capable now already compare to other mobile OS currently which is very customizable and able to compatible with various different hardware/screen resolution/additional features(like air gesture, one-touch mirroring and etc).
Personally, I think Google just need to focus on making Android as smooth as IOS and as light as WP8. Hope one day Android could break free from the dependencies on those "crazy spec" optimization.
