Google reveals why the Pixel 9 series doesn't support Qi2 charging

15 August 2024
There's only one Android smartphone in the market with Qi2 wireless charging support.

I believe a certain former US president was using an Anker magsafe power bank during his 'Space' with Elon Musk recently...

Wireless charging is only one element, more interesting to me are the possibilities with magnetic accessories. For example, I like to hike and having a magnetic camera attachment or battery pack is much more convenient than wired charging on the move.

HMD may have another Qi2 certified device available soon in the form of their 'Fusion' project which also has pogo pin attachment for accessories.

I can't relate to this simply because I've never had an issue with the USB port while charging devices. I'm not a heavy user so I also can't relate to charging a phone 1-3 times a day. I mostly charge mine once every 3 days!

However with that being said if there are customers who are charging their phones 1-3 times a day it tells me that companies are not doing enough in terms of power efficiency and battery capacity!

We've come a long way in terms of battery charging speeds but what's the point having 80w charging if you've only got a 4500 mah battery. 5000 mah has to be the bare minimum going forward. I want to see 6000 - 7000 mah going forward!!!!

Google is so far behind on battery and charging tech it's not even funny. If their cameras won't do good nobody would even buy the pixels.

Need to keep the phone charging on long drives because Android Auto is a power hog even on phones with large batts.

Snapdragon 695 hater, 15 Aug 2024Never understood why wireless charging is so important for ... moreNo strain on the USB port, which is especially important with Pixel since the USB port is soldered to the motherboard. Additionally, if you have a case with port covers, wireless charging means that you never need to wear those out either opening and closing them 1-3+ times 3 a day. I personally use the Pixel Stand charger (even though it's overpriced) but any stand style wireless charger will make it easier to see notifications when you're sitting down.

No tangible benefit? The benefits are so obvious. This is just Google not caring, or simply being lazy.

Anonymous, 15 Aug 2024Wireless charging been out since 2015 havent seen a single ... moreNot only that you have no idea since when is wireless charging in a phone, the first phone with wireless charging being the Nokia Lumia 920 in 2012. The device was the most innovative in 2012, and as we can all see, in 2024 also, as nothing changed since. Being also the first with OiS camera, and nightmode shots, the first with pentaband LTE support, the first with 60hz HD+ screen, the first with supersensitive touch, you could use gloves and would still work. One of the first with a more professional aproach to camera software, following 808 pureview. The first taking moving shots, or live pictures.
Anyhow, you also have no idea how many people use wireless charging, and there are a lot of them, so keep the ignorance for yourself, it only spreads.

Never understood why wireless charging is so important for people. I'm here to learn van someone enlighten me please? Genuine question. Many thanks.

It is not even wireless if cable is needed.

                            TLDR: Because we can cannot.
