Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra's width and screen size tipped

A few changes will combine to make it much more of a joy to hold than its predecessor ever was.

      what a beauty, looks gorgeous

Anonymous, 16 Aug 2024Imagine hating so much on bezels that you have to go extrem... moreI can understand what you're saying. I have an LG V50, which has a notch, and an LG Wing, which doesn't. One thing I learned from the notch is that there are still lots of apps that aren't intelligent enough to hide it despite having the notch fully hidden with the built-in "New Second Screen" mode.

Also, you're right about the true full-screen experience. Seeing the notch messing with the screen when zooming in YouTube videos to fill the whole screen is always weird. That's why I always watch videos and live streams on the Wing more than the V50 since I don't have to worry about the notch interrupting or interfering with the screen.

GAMIR3DH, 16 Aug 2024The wider the better! In that case, I'd be so happy to see the return of the 16:9 smartphone screen panels. 18:9 is also not a bad idea since it's the best compromise between width and height.

Ngl, I do miss the S21 Ultra design. Samsung could've redone the design with a flat-screen panel and S Pen slot.

The body width is 79mm, of which only 72.3mm is the screen, and the remaining 6.7mm is all the frame and the middle frame, which makes the hand feel full and difficult to hold with small hands

This is the rationale behind "the whatever"

Spoiler alert let's just go the end
In conclusion.... pick up a ruler see what 6.7mm looks like then divide 6.7 that by TWO .

Presumably Ice Universe is not opposed to EXTERNAL side buttons, FRAME or extending the sim eject tool to include internal control.

Ignoring screen resolution, and other flagship that have similar sized especially width, is there an iota of common sense in the tweet?

AnonD-1167022, 16 Aug 2024Rounder edges and improved front aesthetics is good to see,... moreMost design is not about usability. It's about appearing fresh so people buy it. Flat screens used to be mocked for their simplicity. Now it's all the rage. Same with the shape. Samsung slowly went more square to make each iteration seem different. Now it will slowly make the phones more round until a new design ethos comes up.

AnonD-1167022, 16 Aug 2024Rounder edges and improved front aesthetics is good to see,... moreDon't forget the Note20 Ultra and the earlier ones. The Note series has always been sharper, most notably Note8 and onwards. Samsung wants to keep that spirit alive. But forget that humans have hands that react better to curved things.

There's a reason why mice, keyboards, steering wheels, cameras, etc. all have curves. The S23 Ultra was uncomfortable to hold but easy to grip, the S22 Ultra was nice to hold but not that nice considering the wide footprint. That's the main issue, they need to go back to the 20:9 aspect ratio of the S20 Ultra and the S21 Ultra.

I was talking about the back btw. I don't really care about the front. Flat doesn't feel as premium as curved to me when using it, the gesture based screens of today feel so much more intuitive on a curved screen. Yet the devices are fragile and also reflect heavily in direct light, so I get the opposing view too. I think the Pixel 8 did it best, the glass is slightly curved at the edge to allow gestures to go in nicely, Samsung didn't get the memo with the S24 U, the side literally has a frame like what!??

The main issue with these phones isn't the palm piercing corners, it's the way they are unwieldy and uncomfortable to hold due to their design (especially S23U and S24U). I haven't held an S24U but I can just tell after trying an S23U that it's far more uncomfortable. Even Apple is backpedalling on the flat back thing. Samsung started copying Apple a bit too late lol

So basically an iPhone Pro Max…classic Samsung.

Rounder edges and improved front aesthetics is good to see, but I do admit I really dislike this extremely long design improvement thing Samsung has going on...

The S22U was extremely curved, then the S23U was a little less curved, then the S24U was flat but too rectangular, the S25U will be rounded and flat still.

This shouldn't have taken this many generations to find a good design, everybody can instantly guess a large, heavy phone using sharp corners WILL dig into your palms. This problem has been brought up since the S22U. If you were gonna make the screen flat, don't make a half step where it's not quite flat still...

Galaxy Note 10 with its 6.3 inch curves screen was of just perfect size, weight and usability. Unfortunately, Samsung decided to go with huge, heavy and very uncomfortable to carry around bricks like S22/23/24 Ultra without any option of more compact device in the Note series.
