They were shared by Google's own Peyman Milanfar, who worked on this feature. Zoom Enhance was originally announced back in October 2023.

        1) How ironic - the "improved" version looks less like the real Mona Lisa than the crop.

        2) The "improved framing" is identical to the non-improved version.

Anonymous, 19 Aug 2024People understand that it's not actual (optical) zoom.... moreThat's not "making them sharper". There is NO way you can "sharpen" that squirrel fur from that blurry mess of an original photo. It's "Ai" interpolated and replaced image content. And at this point, it's basically entirely reconstructed image.

Those photos look horribly AI generated (well because they are). Only really useful for emergencies. The Pro zoom is already good enough.

Just updated the Photos app on my Pixel 8 Pro, but there's still nothing new in the Tools tab.

How cute! Just look at those enhanced faces!!

                      can work for some things

For example Xiaomi's RAM management is tuff and so is my S22 Ultra's one (background tasks still die even when I have only 4 apps running and i have 12 gb of ram). Then there's the case of Apple, Samsung and Google having trouble with processing with their new huge sensors (14 Pro Max, S20 Ultra and Pixel 6 Pro).

Anonymous, 19 Aug 2024People understand that it's not actual (optical) zoom.... moreConsidering the distance between phone and subject photo 1, the regular crop is too low quality . Even if you crop 3x to have bit more than 1MP left, should still look bit better, because 1MP is more than HD resolution

                              🤣🤣🤣

Can any galaxy brain individual explain why the phone NEEDS more than 8 GB of RAM for this minute feature? It seems like the feature is similar to DLSS or Samsung's "Remaster" feature. Just a bit higher "quality", reminds me of just getting an AI drawing. DLSS isn't too taxing, neither is my phone's remaster feature, why does anyone NEED more than 8 gigs then? Why couldn't they have a slower one that used the storage for the rest of the data that's needed and still allow older users to use it?

This feels like artificial segmentation. Create a problem where there was none and make customers have a FOMO. THIS is why we all need tangible hardware, not software. Google, Samsung and Apple can change everything about your software, take away some of your favourite looks and features of the software and you won't be able to do anything. This is just peak modern day "product as a service" practice. Movies and TV Shows have become cash grabbing titles for streaming platforms where they can get nuked, games are live services that are unfinished at launch and slowly get better, still suck later on and are made with artificial hurdles like in mobile games to make you keep playing longer and finally, there's BMW giving people the privilege to use a service if they pay monthly/annually.

We're living in dark times fr, I'm a zoomer and even I'm concerned.
