Be warned: some Qi2 devices don't have magnets and it can be hard to tell

This is outdated and incorrect. The WPC has since specifically clarified that devices marketed as Qi2 must have magnets, and the specifications of those magnets is mandated by the WPC

Anonymous, 26 Aug 2024I have used 67w fast charging daily for the past year and i... moreIf you plan to get a new phone every year, well then you are fine.
Any new owner will be the one that get the consequences of the fast charging.
If it is done preventing the battery from getting really hot, the decay will be tolerable the first year.
Start reading some of the interesting stuff here
https://batteryuniversity.com
Obviously you will not notice any difference from day to day, and obviously there will be a decay even with slow low current charging over a year....
If you took three identically phones and had one stored optimally turned Off. One slow charged daily and one fast charged daily, and then measured the remaining capacity the three batteries could hold, there will be a significant difference
There are a lot of other stuff that matters too like the surrounding temperature, how fast the discharge is, and how deep the discharge is and how fully charged it gets, though there are circuitry that try to prevent the worst effects of the later two....
As an example this could be useful reading
https://batteryuniversity.com/article/bu-808-how-to-prolong-lithium-based-batteries
Also read at the least thee summary of this one
https://batteryuniversity.com/article/ultra-fast-charging
Battery users have a strong desire to prolong the life of a battery and here are recommendations of what the battery custodian can do:
Charge at a moderate rate. Ultra-fast charging causes stress. (NiCd is the only battery that can accept ultra-fast charge with minimal stress.)
If possible, do not fill Li-ion to 100 percent state-of-charge. (Only lead acid requires a fully saturated charge to prevent sulfation.) Most chargers charge the battery fully.
• Prevent elevated temperatures. Keeping Li-ion at full charge and elevated temperature causes more stress than cycling under normal conditions.
An ultra-fast charge fills the battery only partially; saturation charge completes the charge at a slower pace. Go easy on the saturation as Li-ion does not need a full charge.

Qi2 simply for wireless charging is not very interesting given there are various proprietary implementations from manufacturers with faster speeds etc.
Of more interest is the potential for accessories with the Qi2 MPP, either to dock a device for at-home use with a desk setup, or for possibilities such as camera attachments, battery packs, fans etc.

Other than the MPP, is there any meaningful difference between Qi2 and the original standard? It looks like charging is still limited to 15W and I'm not sure what other improvements there could be.

DemonSpeed, 26 Aug 2024My last three phones had wireeless charging and I never ise... morePeople have the wireless chargers in their cars built in from the factories. They just charge like 10 minutes on them or something. Also there are people who have the monitor stand with the wireless charger and have the phone on them when they are at work in office and so on.
I dont think anyone use the wireless to charge any device from 0% to max.
I had the wireless on my Asus Nexus tablet and i used the wireless cause the micro usb plug got bent or something as to get the tablet charging from cable it needed to be in some angle. So the tablet got one year more life to use with the wireless charging

Do any of them even have magnets ? I would think they have just metal ring in the back so the power bank will have the magnet to be stuck on the phone back.
So if the phone dont have that metal to have the magnet stick to then you can just buy a sticker that have metal plate

Anonymous, 26 Aug 2024"Wireless" charging is a meme. It's slower a... moreWell there are pros and cons of both using wired and wireless...
Wireless is obviously easier and does not give the usb-plug any wear. (A usb-plug getting loose of the board it is soldered on, is a VERY common fault on mobiles!!)
On the other hand wireless 'boils' the batteries, as the waste energy generates heats that goes into the phone and battery (unless the charger has sufficient active cooling). LiIon battery get their overall life span shortened when charged at over about 30°C.
So wireless should be done significantly slower (lesser current, lesser waste heat) than wired.
Fast charging is also bad wired, but much worse wireless.
I usually see fast charging and wireless charging like junk food: Occasional usage is fine, but bad for the health if used daily....

Useless feature honestly good only when you break your cableň charger or charging port.
Rather will fix my charging issues than use a wireless charging because it makes giant pressure on battery by overheating it. And is painfully slow in most cases.
No thanks
