Be warned: some Qi2 devices don't have magnets and it can be hard to tell

26 August 2024
The Magnetic Power Profile is optional for Qi2 and WPC's messaging about branding is confusing.

A lot of selfcentered people here.
If you do not use the feature, or do not understand how and why to use it, then don't talk for those who do understand and use it.

It is same as saying "im driving a petrol car, so it means everybody else are also driving petrol cars and they all hate diesel cars". Thats how you think.

Apple added magnets to do exactly that, improve efficiency.

Is this something new in the world of Androids? Fragmentation?

Dynamic Island and MagSafe are 2 recent high profile useless gimmicks from Apple.

With the incredibly fast wired charging of Android phones, I don't know why anyone would bother with wireless charging. Wireless charging seems to be used mostly by iPhone users.

"Wireless" charging is a meme. It's slower and you're just putting the phone on a pad rather than plugging it in directly. Big deal.

Invetor, 26 Aug 2024speaking of wireless charging, does wireless charging work ... moreYes, except if the case is more than 4 or 5 mm thick ... And there isn't any penalty, it works or it won't because of aligment ;)
Some 15W charging have ventilator that refresh the phone if needed.

Invetor, 26 Aug 2024speaking of wireless charging, does wireless charging work ... moreI have been charging my 12 mini since end of 2021 with a Magsafe charger most of the time. I'm using a Spigen cover which has Magsafe magnets as well. I don't think it affected speed and neither did it affect battery health in an abnormal way.

My battery health after almost 3 years is 83%. Do remember this is a small phone which needs to be charged more often than others

why would wireless charging need magnetic alignment?

it is stoopid aPple invention. If u need magnetic alignment then better go with pogo stick instead.. can charge at full speed and no need to suffer wireless inefficiency..

wireless charging should be free from alignment.. efforts should be made to improve its efficiency not adding magnets

                      🤣 lol

speaking of wireless charging, does wireless charging work with a phone covered by a case? is there any penalty in charging speed?

And no, there isn't a tremendous overheating except on crappy charger perhaps 😬

                            no worries, never used it

My last three phones had wireeless charging and I never ised it.
I dont understand why people even want to use wireless charging.
There is a port and a cable right there. Why not use them.

And its abyssmal charging speed and the HEAT is only cherry on top of a cake.

I think people want to use it just for the sake of it.

Making the magnets mandatory would exclude many devices from using qi2 sadly. This is mostly the case for devices that are smaller than the magnet ring. Smart watches come to mind.

Anyhow: using better discernable logos and names would be appreciated.
Making the magnet profile compatible with qi1 and giving the magnets a specific name would imo be the best.

                                I dub thee: qi snap!
And now you can add qi or qi2 logo + qi snap logo and word branding to your items and someone who wants the magnets looks for qi snap. Someone that looks for 15w, looks for qi2.
Someone that looks for both, well... You guessed it!

                                Good, have a nice day!

Good to know for the singular Qi 2 phone that I'm sure will sell in the millions. I'm convinced that Qi2 has some insane licensing fee and that's why companies are avoiding it right now. That's the only reason I cant think of as to why it hasn't caught on yet.
