Oppo Find X8 series is getting a Capture Button too, just like the iPhone 16 family

28 August 2024
And it's also seemingly capacitive and not a 'real' button.

Unfortunately it still remains one of the few phones that could make a half-decent picture in the dark thanks to its having an actual small Xenon flash and not this LED "flash"-toy.
So Apple is definitely not the first in recent times with a "Capture button".

Regarding buttons, 5-10 years ago there were BlackBerry Android phones with 50+ programmable shortcuts, but unfortunately not many cared.

If the market leaders aren't doing it they don't have much incentive to do so as well. That's why they do it after Apple. People over here always act like market leaders have nothing to do with other manufacturers but they're wrong. Market leaders ALWAYS have an impact on the way the other products are made. They're even following Samsung, how? Look at the naming scheme of the top tier flagships. "Ultra".

Other phone vendors are just saying that we can do it too. Removing the charger from the box is too easy, implementing a dynamic island is no problem, putting magnets on the back of the phone, what? capture button? Sure, why not?

I know others have had the capture button. But it was absent from modern phones until Apple brought it back.

And this one is rumoured to be capacitive, meaning no two-step action (focus-shoot).

This comment section is amazing. So many 'X's and thumbs up. There's a great discussion going on here and I kind of agree with everyone!

Yes dumb phones used to have capture buttons, I miss those days! K800i gang anyone?!

However at the same time it is very frustrating to see that iPhone is leading and everyone follows. Don't get me wrong android phones have done so much better when it comes to fast charging, bigger batteries, high refresh rates, OLED and screen resolution.

Why I feel this is such a missed opportunity is because on some cheap phones they used to have those "Google buttons" where it would bring up the assistant when you press them (Nokia 5.3 from my recollection). So many reviewers used to say they wish this was programmable (I know you can just get apps for this) and should be a feature in Android itself. Then they got rid of the buttons entirely and now they're trying to bring them back just because Apple decides to do it!

The point I'm making is that android should have had programmable buttons going back 5 years ago! Imagine how cool they would be on foldables where you can click a button and it splits your screen into 3 separate apps or open the camera if you wanted it to!

I even got Lumia 830 cause of that button even tough i dont care about the camera as i dont do much at all pictures or videos. I also had that button on Lumi 520 that i had before 830

I just like the 2 level click to make a picture. Half in to fix and fully in to take the shot.
I have some serious hand shaking so even with button the picture wont come good.

I need it to be stationary and with remote controller button wireless or wired to take the shot without the shaking

that button make the device more as a camera and phone second
