Weekly poll: is the Motorola Edge 50 Neo the small phone to get?

03 September 2024
It's not the smallest, but it is smaller than most. Plus, it offers some premium features, despite its mid-range price. And some not-so-premium features, of course.

No matter what i am promoting in the end its up to phone brands and phone makers what they output I.E. brings to the world not me.
What i say or dont say is not relevat and is not important because i am not making phones just saying my own opinions and reasons why.
Thats all.
Whether you like it or no i honestly dont care anyway.
Because as i said its not up to me but up to them what they make whats brings them profits and what sells better.
And companies knows bigger is always better easy reason why we left 3 inch sizes from 10-15 years ago to 6,5 up to 7,2 inches phones.
Glad to see that. Small phones were really creepy.
Rather would drive a proper limousine than a car named P50 smallest mass produced car in existence.

Tech Guy, 03 Sep 2024Other than Telephoto, there's nothing special about it... moreAccording to RAZR 50 and CMF Phone, 7300 has a very good efficiency...
          Tests on gsmarena's :
          - fusion 6,7" 7s Gen 2 (Samsung's process) 5000mAh : 12h40
          - RAZR 6.9" 7300X (TSMC's) 4200mAh : 11h46

With a smaller 6.36" and a 4300mAh, you can expect similar battery life than Fusion

          Plus :
          - 512Go vs 256
          - 3000nits vs 1600
          - better screen résolution
          - telephoto
          - wifi 6e vs 5
          - bluetooth 5.3 vs 5.2
          - wireless charging
          Minus :
          - gorilla glass 3 vs 5

Other than Telephoto, there's nothing special about it. Only if it had 5000mAh + 68W Charging similar to Fusion with a little better 7350 chip, it would have been competitive. So, that's my opinion as a Tech Expert. OnePlus 11 is easily available on same price along with IQOO 11 in some areas as well as Vivo X90.

Anonymous, 03 Sep 2024NO there are still many differences between the two Neo has LTPO, Pro does not.
Neo has Sony exmor, Pro has omnivision.
Both with small batteries and Qi charging.
                      Both have 12/512 variants.
                      Neither has usb 3.x .
Neo is 13-73mm cam system, Pro is 13-72mm.

Only difference would be charging speed and screen size if both had 7g3. I am not counting curved x flat.

Neo would be above Edge 50 as well.

If Ultra had 8g3 and Pro 8sg3 , then I would agree with 7g3 for Neo or 7g3 for Edge 50 and 7sg3 for Neo.

"Maybe the Xperia 5 VI will too"

Are you sure? We have already passed 1 September, the usual Xperia 5 series unveil date and we haven't heard any solid news about Xperia 5 series in a while other than Xperia 5 probably cancelled and merged with Xperia 1 series. Even the one with the case leak proclaiming 5 VI, it is highly probable that is for the Xperia 10 VI case because of Xperia 10 VI design is similar to the Xperia 5 V. I could be wrong, but the presence of the Xperia 5 is already winding down.

I have an edge 30 neo and I was thinking to wait one or two years before switching to a base or "a" series pixel, but this edge 50 neo is really interesting.

Make it another 20-25 mm shorter by going back to 16:9 ratio (or even better 5:3(15:9)) and we have a deal.

These ultrawide (or ultratall) ratios are insanely stupid and actually hurt user experience.

This "compact" phone is actually taller than my Lenovo P2 was(RIP).

Anonymous, 03 Sep 2024right If this had a 7 gen 3 or at least 7s gen 2 then wo... moreDimensity 7300 is a slightly better chipset than 7s gen 2 overall.

And yes 7 gen 3 would have made this package even better, but it was not very likely given that the more premium Edge 50 Pro uses that chipset and some differentiation was necessary.

7s Gen 3 (slightly less powerful than 7 gen 3 but uses more recent architecture and manufacturing node)... Now that would have been interesting!

As of now, Pixel 8 is THE compact smartphone to get (if you can get it under $500-550 mark).

I usually think Motorola is shit however this phone sounds interesting (and I've said the same for this year's stylus device)

But should be noted 6.4" is nowhere near "compact", but is much easier to handle than an iPhone 15PM
