Xiaomi 15 Ultra again rumored to sport a 200 MP periscope telephoto camera

I have suspicions that Xiaomi ain't adding the toggle just like that. We had some rumors about 4.x lens and now 10x lens. I assume that they wanna replace secondary 3.2x zoom camera and indeed add a 10x optical zoom, otherwise those rumors about 4.x camera don't make sense, like replace a 5x zoom with worse 4.x zoom? Or have a 5x zoom in combination of 4.x zoom? No logic. I hope they really implement 10x optical zoom, fingers crossed

kamigaz, 04 Sep 20241.4% more light. Let's say peanuts.No. In perfect light conditions, the S23 Ultra should capture 114% (not 1.4%) more light from distant objects (without overexposing and if it uses the same algorithms) because the sensor area of distant objects is (27.2mm/18.6mm)²= 2.14 times as large.

The S23 Ultra's ... moreYou're definitely right, my apologies - I was incorrectly assuming that S23 Ultra was using a type 1/4 sensor when it was in fact type 1/3.4. S23 Ultra does gather slightly more light per field of view compared to S24 Ultra, I stand corrected.

Anonymous, 04 Sep 2024"The S23/S22 Ultras with their 10x take far more natur... moreYou don't know what you're talking about. I have an S22 Ultra, I know what kind of photos it takes. I take shots in Pro Mode with RAW, Gcam AND in auto mode with sharpening turned down, the details look and are real. You compared easy shots in a store, try going out and taking those shots. Don't push your store taken photos on me. I go out and check out the things I took shots of up close so I know how they are "supposed" to look.
You know exactly what I mean by digital binning. Stop trying to act like you're owning me with this stupid point. The words don't matter, my point/what I'm trying to say does. The binning of the pixels leads to a normal photo but the unbinned shots look extremely digital and artificial. If you haven't owned a phone that does that you wouldn't know.
For examples of the S24 Ultra not taking "great" zoomed shots, look at the countless examples online shown by TechTablets, TechNick, The Tech Phenomena, ben's gadget reviews, LL Techview, etc. I've done my research, do yours.

Nick Tegrataker, 04 Sep 2024In terms of the light intake, S24 Ultra's 5x lens actu... moreThat's actually not true at all. The S23 Ultra's periscope camera has an effective lens diameter of 5.55mm whereas the S24 Ultra has 5.47mm. This means that the S23 Ultra captures 3% more light per exposure time from distant objects / at 230mm than the S24 Ultra.
And at base Iso, the S23 Ultra's periscope should capture roughly 114% more light from distant objects without overexposing, if both phones use the same algorithms at base Iso.

jiyen235, 04 Sep 2024The S24 Ultra's lens either is terrible at digital zoo... more"The S23/S22 Ultras with their 10x take far more natural shots"
As I said, I compared them in a store and the S23 Ultra produces much more fake detail than the S24 Ultra at high zoom factors. The S23 Ultra will much more often show wrong numbers/letters when you take a photo of a distant sign. Most reviewers don't check which details are actually true. When something looks "better" at first, it doesn't mean that it is actually better.
"digital binning"
No, the binning is analog, even officially confirmed by Sony that Quad Bayer sensors use analog binning. Digital binning, also known as downsampling, wouldn't make any sense as the readout speed would be much slower and there would be no true noise benefit. Downsampling doesn't really improve the signal to noise ratio of an object in contrast to analog binning.

You don't have to make up random BS to prove your point when it instantly becomes obvious that you are lying. The poll results are as follows:
13.9% as a main phone
17.6% as a secondary phone/camera
68.5% voted for this option to view the poll results even though they don't have the phone to begin with

Yep, 1st place in the smartphone market of Rakuten (One of the largest online wholesale services in Japan) from day 1 of the release. Pretty impressive for a SIM free phone given how popular carrier locked phones are in Japan.

Anonymous, 04 Sep 2024Translation: S23 Ultra 230mm > S24 Ultra 2x out of ... moreIn terms of the light intake, S24 Ultra's 5x lens actually gathers 18% more light than S23 Ultra's 10x lens, both shooting 230mm equivalent field of view. It's just that S24U's "new" telephoto lens suffers from lower microcontrast which becomes apparent during the 10x crop zoom.

Same thing over and over. Numbers go up, but picture quality stays the same. Overprocesing, bad camera SW and in the end unnatural, oversharpened and not propertly focused photos.
You should replicate what Nokia was doing 10 years ago in Lumia mobile phones. Still unreachable for any todays mobile phone camera.
