It seems alright if you use it in portrait however if you hold it in landscape that's quite a stretch for the index finger and don't seem all that comfortable from the picture.

No its not and it has been there in ASUS ROG series for more than 5 years. They didnt just use it for camera, because they are idiots but the innovation is quite old

The use of the capacitive functionality to control the camera is a good idea...but not innovative.
It's just like the same principle fingerprint scanners used on some Android phones, when fingerprint scanners are placed where they belong (the side of the phone) rather than underneath the screen.
I personally preferred that the controls for the camera were on the fingerprint scanner and the camera button be a REAL button like they were on Nokia phones over a decade ago and still are on Sony phones.
But this is definitely the second best thing. Definitely better than not having a camera button at all, specially if you claim to focus on the photography aspect of your phone.
Let's see if Android OEMs that only know how to copy Apple (Samsung, Xiaomi, Oppo, Google etc) will copy one of the few good ideas Apple has had in decades, or if they'll ignore it like they did with the Mini.

I've been able to double press the lockscreen button to open the camera for over 5 years. And guess what, no additional buttons needed.

Honestly I'm disappointed with Samsung. I thought I'll never see the day when apple phones would have more innovation than samsung. Truly disappointing.

They are literally on the verge of leaving the smartphone market and are only available in a handful of countries. The iPhone is available in every corner of the world.
