iPhone 16's new supercharged Camera Control button is some proper innovation

The Camera Control key is used for more than just camera controls.

It's a clumsy gimmick that I'd expect to see on an HTC or HMD phone, not a mainstream iPhone. Very few of their buyers will use something so old-fashioned and specialised.

Ohhh Myyy Goddddd!!! What an innovation.. Innovation of the century!!!

I would take a 2 step shutter with capacitive slide functionality all day everyday, this "light touch" "harded press" "tap and hold" stuff seems over complicated for absolutely no reason

Bravosixgoingdark, 10 Sep 2024Sony were rumoured to be developing a hardware shutter+zoom... moreXperia has always had a two-stage shutter key on their photography cameras, and their volume button is used to zoom. I think that's better and more intuitive than what Apple's done here.

Didn't almost everyone hate the programmable button on the opposite side of the volume/power keys?

2024 and the innovation is adding a button... jesus christ...

But all other oem.surely knew months ago iphones were gonna have it.
Many " leaks" come from supply chain.

Question is, why doing something only after hearing iphone may have this something?

Bruh, asus rog and redmagic phones already have it for YEARS!
In the past there is also LG, HTC, and Huawei with their 3d touch(/force touch/ whatever it's called) on their screen and some have it on the side as a replacement of a normal button.

And we can't forget about that forbidden touchscreen on the blackberry storm series.

This is definitely cool and useful, but not exactly innovative lol 🤣

The iPhone 16 is brilliant. Fantastic product from start to finish.

I have a Sony Xperia 10iii and after having it for a few months I emailed Sony asking if they could make the Assistant button on the side of the phone to act like a dedicated camera button when I launch the camera app.

They said no, we can't do that.

That's it. Just brushed it off and here we see it's a defining feature of the new iPhone which they'll all be scrambling to copy now....

That's the problem with Android, and why I want to move back to iPhone: the Android manufacturers are plain stupid!

All their phones attempt to clone iPhone but can't. Especially anything that isn't a Samsung S24 Ultra. That's the only decent phone, ending else, even in Samsung's line up is cheap junk.

Look at this year's A55. It's damn expensive at €500 but has a rubbish CPU, cameras and build.
For the same money I can get a new iPhone 13. Seriously, did Samsung (and all the other idiot manufacturers) NOT check the pricing of older iPhones in the market???

Morons who deserve to have their assess handed to them by Apple.

I can't wait to ditch my android now and get an iPhone again

I can't believe Apple actually thinks that an average camera control button and Google Lens are groundbreaking features. They must be running out of ideas.
