Samsung to lay off 10% of its workforce in India amid a factory strike crisis

11 September 2024
About 200 people are being terminated following poor consumer demand while in the same time a strike by factiory workers has its Chenai plant in standstill.

Modeey, 12 Sep 2024And you never will and we all know why Really?
Just a quick google search showed that they have factory strikes there.
Maybe you should stop making things up.

That's a shame; my prayers go out to all the employees affected. Hopefully Samsung will do better with its marketing and sales in the near future.

If any place needs Samsung's industry, it's India. I understand why layoffs happen, but it's still painful to know that a significant portion of the workforce now has no job currently.

The salaries will keep on increasing even when company makes loss. Why should anyone take a salary cut? Does not make sense to offer a salary & then reduce it. Keeping it stagnant for a few years without increasing it may make more sense....again these are my two cents...so take it with a pinch of salt.

Not surprising as someone who works in the manufacturing sector. These companies hire the worst jerks as higher managers. The pay isn't good but they want you to slog and always be prepared to be the scapegoat. This is not just with Samsung, it has happened even the Apple manufacturers, philips, etc. The news media doesn't show this dark side. All the decent people I know have already left for the IT sector or went abroad. The only ones that remain working in the manufacturing sector are people without a decent education or fake degrees without knowledge. These people manage the production the lowest quality products at much higher prices. I too am planning to leave within a year. Manufacturing just isn't going to work in India.

I hope those laid off will find another job, probably with the competition.

These so called high class stake holders , they need % way above the whole world , and push these companies to take such measures. Just because they can dictate ( may be because of their origin or intelligence), does not mean some people will not even get their bread? When we will start practice Dharma ???

Unless they somehow did let's say 4 hours per day compared to the average of 6 hours, then you'd be right. But it's Samsung, they're obviously going to give higher wages.

"The plant, located in Sriperumbudur, produces TVs, fridges and washing machines and contributes between 20% and 30% of Samsung's annual $12 billion revenue in India"

That's a lot of work, a lot of important stuff for the company is being done here. But you're just gonna ignore all that. Blame me for saying samsung is the best, you're defending malicious practices but im the one who's bad for pointing it out.

Nice whataboutism buddy. Samsung numba one and everyone else sucks!! But oh wait, Samsung profits off of selling chips and stuff to the Chinese, so they're part of the problem as well, right? But nah, Samsung da best, they're right in being with the Chinese, right??
