QLC was supposed to be much cheaper, slower variant, but it absolutely failed, it is extremely slow, yet its price is still within 10% of fastest ssds. No one who is sane is buying these qlc ssds.

QLC is independent from nVME and bus speed.

What you referring nVME gen4 is a communication standard over pcie gen 4 bus.

There's plenty of QLC nVME gen4 drive. A slow SSD probably caused by DRAMless variant.

QLCs also have a lower endurance rating than TLCs, which means that they only handle a limited number of write cycles before they start to degrade. In contrast, TLCs handle more write cycles and are generally more durable than QLCs.

When it comes to performance, QLC and TLC SSDs can have similar read speeds, but TLCs typically offer faster write speeds than QLCs. This is because TLCs store fewer bits of data per cell, which provides faster write speeds. QLCs, on the other hand, can suffer from slower write speeds due to the increased complexity of storing more bits of data per cell.

I have a qlc ssd. It's so slow man. Not that faster than hdd. I'm dealing with lots of files, so nvme gen4 is the way to go

QLC is not an "upgrade". SLC is the goated one. The more cells there are the lower the longevity of an SSD cell since they need to be written on more and additionally the speeds would be lower. If anyone has tried a single huge storage drive and compared it to two smaller storage drives you'll know. Larger drives are faster. So QLC, by being basically 4 times as smaller than an equivalent SLC SSD, is gonna most likely last for far less time.

It's not all bad, QLC SSDs are super duper cheap at high storage capacities as a result so if anyone ONLY needs to archive stuff like old photos, movies/song rips from CD/DVDs, games, etc. then these are fantastic.
