The applied launchers of each OEM does contain much more stuff in combination with a major release. There is where there is a difference between the different tiers in what you get on which device. Looking at stock android devices such as the Pixel line-up there isn't much difference between an 8a and a vanilla 8 but there is when the 8 pro is added to the comparison.

Also, my experience with Xiaomi devices is that you do get a lot of MIUI (and their latest version) updates but not necessarily always combined with an Android major update, especially when you're speaking about budget or entry midrange devices, no matter if we're speaking about full fledged Xiaomi (although the latter has been reserved for flagship and upper midranges (since the "Mi" term got cancelled) devices or Redmi ones.

Honestly, being able to move app icons freely only in 2024 is actually pathetic. Idc what you think.
I like iPhones, but come on, that's nothing to brag about lol
Some phones have this function for well over 10 years.

hardware upgrade should be upmost priority on phones. as with capable hardware you can implement more features and long-term software support and device longevity.
e.g. hardware of apple and software of google with design diversity of samsung can make a near desirable phone for all ages.

The cellular data toggle is still on the same place in the settings under cellular and now they do have a cellular data control center toggle available (I prefer airplane mode toggle as it dosnt turn off bluetooth or wifi)

Mobile data toggle now takes an extra tap to turn it on and off. Wow great progress by apple software design team. Hasn’t anyone noticed this basic thing yet? It is not available as a seperate control center button like airplane mode bluetooth etc.
why cant they copy android completely instead of putting their own spin on things. Its like last years App Library. Category is never correctly segregated. It takes few more taps to get to the app.

Now everything has shrunk in size ... moreI agree it’s annoying that the videos loop now, but I remember always having to hit to enlarge playback, in landscape mode anyway 🤔
Also agree that yes the name tags to apps should be able to dropped regardless of the size of the icon.

However, there is no way building the Pixel brand is more important to Google than getting evermore people using Google services.
So yeah, you often see certain features getting introduced on Google hardware first, this helps them to promote that line and gives them time to iron out some of the kinks prior to offering them to the wider ecosystem. If they hold a few back for themselves, well it’s not like their partners in the Android world don’t build exclusive features into their own skins now is it 🤷
At the end of the day when Google drops the source code for new versions of Android, it’s available to all who wish to use it. And again, the interest among more dedicated Android fans in longer software support has seemed to come hand in hand with Android oem’s promise of such.
Prior to that those same Android fans could often be heard saying how little they cared about long term support, especially when responding to Apple fans lauding the high levels of support iOS has long enjoyed. A timely change of tune if ever I saw one, but purely coincidental I’m sure 🤔
