nion, 17 Sep 2024There is a simple answer why Apple is selling more PREMIUM ... morethe answer isn't simple. It's complex and a range of factors come into play. Software support, original value of the phone, the performance (at least in theory), the cameras, etc.

Nearly everyone online agrees that Apple is reliable but boring, and that's what people mostly like for some reason. They want consistent 6/10 experiences instead of an inconsistent 10/10. Besides, there have been no huge flaw in them ever since the 13 series. Apple and Samsung somehow were neck and neck overall. Whatever flaw Apple had, Samsung had as well (apart from the notch).

They didn't bring out Apple Intelligence cus of Samsung and they had to compete, they think it's going to be the next big thing and act as a selling point for customers so that they don't have to make actual hardware changes. A software solution is always cheaper, Google and Samsung learned it, so they're spending on that and fooling android users. That's all.

You can long press (peek, pop) the app and there is an option to require face id to use the app, or you can hide it outright from appearing anywhere on the phone (hidden). If you hie it it then goes into a hidden folder in your app library that has no icons in the folder until you use face id to open it.

It seems people really care about long and fast updates. Imagine if there was a community in the android space that was just like Apple's, a new version comes around and everyone shares their own things they did with android. That'd encourage current users to keep android and pull in other users as well.

It is gatekeeping because look at the AI features, they locked it off for themselves till now. The Pixel exclusive features can also be talked about as well. If those were available to other brands why didn't they implement them?

          Ruined the photos app.
Now everything has shrunk in size while searching.
Video playback is multi step procedure now as you hit play then have to enlarge, incredibly stupid.
Keeps looping videos instead of stopping at the end.
Another stupid thing is when getting rid of app names on homescreen the only option is large which is too big. Why not option for normal size as well?

Thing is, when Apples major versions have bugs, they tend to be more severe (like the Finder memory leak issue on Big Sur or whatever version it was on)

No matter what I bought, my phones got fully fledged updates for years. If an Android update has new features those are included, if anything vendor specific stuff may not be shipped, but I'd say that is diffferent to iOS where everything is vendor specific, basically

It hasn't exactly been a secret in the last years that older devices get the new iOS versions, but not all of the things that are in it necessarily.

jiyen235, 17 Sep 2024android needs a global release date for new android version... moreGatekeeping? I think Google deserves at least some credit for the steps they have taken over recent years to improve overall support and decrease fragmentation within the Android ecosystem. We are a world away from the situation of a decade ago where even premium Android devices were lucky to get one major update, let alone the promise of ‘multiple years’ worth.

Besides I doubt this one point alone would be sufficient to turn the tables in the premium segment. And haven’t we been reading countless comments for years on sites like this from Android fans how ‘updates weren’t that big of a deal’ anyhow 🤷

So of course they control launch times. In fact Pixels are usually not the first to get new OS updates

jiyen235, 17 Sep 2024android needs a global release date for new android version... moreNah, It's cause every manufacturer has their own android launcher / skin. They gotta make shure everything is running smoothly with minimal bugs.
It's extra complicated when there's so many different CPu, GPU and modem combos, for even the phones in one manufacturer. From like, broadcom, samsung, mediatek, qualcomm ..... so lets say Samsung releases an android update for Galaxy s24. It doesn't work in S23. Cause S24 is all samsunf exynos stuff, but S23 is qualcomm.

jiyen235, 17 Sep 2024android needs a global release date for new android version... moreThere is a simple answer why Apple is selling more PREMIUM phones.

Because all Apple models are premium (at least the price suggests so), and there are hundreds of Android phones available and most people choose low to mid range options. Not everybody has $1000+ to spend on a phone.

If Samsung only sold the S series, then I'm pretty sure there would be more Samsung phones sold than Apples.

I like the iPhone but Samsung is just better for the last few years. Apple "fell asleep" and is stagnating for 3 years or so.

They only brought out Apple Intelligence because Samsung has AI and they had to do something.

Of course while apple has a list back as far as Iphone xr everyone knows that any device back beyond iphone 13 probably stands a considerable risk of being bricked, slowed down or suddenly hit with poor battery life if they do the new update

android needs a global release date for new android versions.

Google and Samsung are gatekeeping fast updates so that their own phones get more sales. If they all cooperated and made it so that all androids get updates at the same rate, then they'd have overtaken Apple in terms of premium phone sales.

As for iOS 18, I hav been running RC (same build as the final release) for a week now and I can tell u that I haven't come across any bug so far.
Running on iPhone 15 Pro Max 256GB Model.

If a older or weaker device is supported it won't get all features as well. It's not that shocking. What would you want, an old device that get's all bells and whistles but becomes slow and useless because of the lack of computing power of the older chip, or a slimmed down version of the update that will still offer some (or even most) features while not becoming useless? Yes, also true, apple devices that get updates become slower and slower each time (programmed obsolesce) but is isn't only apple that is guilty of that.

Anonymous, 17 Sep 2024r u trying to convince yourself ?? LOL when it comes to OS... moreAll updates at once, with varying levels of features ported to old models, which is the point of my question.

I'm surprised to see the XR and SE (2020) still being supported despite having 3GB RAM. 8 Plus and X also have 3GB RAM, yet they aren't supported. It goes to show that the A12 Bionic chipset is still capable to get AI features.
