Lister, 21 Sep 2024Because there are literally 15 smartphone manufacturers in ... moredisplay tech is something apple, google and samsung focus the most on.

but what are you talking about? Those improvements don't set the world on fire? have you even seen the photos of an Oppo Find X7 Ultra/Vivo X100 Ultra/ Xiaomi 14 Ultra compared to an iPhone 15 Pro Max? I'm not even gonna ask you to compare those to the Google/Samsung flagships cus both of them suck.

If you don't care about real innovations, sure. But don't act like they aren't making innovations. The Oneplus 12 charges to 100% faster than Samsung does to 60-70%, WHILST being cooler. Is that not an innovative thing? Or are you going to forget about that.

Processor efficiency? Bro every android phone either uses the top SD or Mediatek chip, who are the phone manufacturers to control that? And battery efficiency? The Magic6 Pro is the best battery phone on the market which again charges super fast.

What "innovations" have Apple, Google or Samsung brought after 2020-ish?

I never said the Pura 70 Ultra's performance is unmatched, I meant to say the camera's shutter speed is almost unmatched. My bad for not clearing it up. But, tell me I'm wrong on that.

Besides, what does government funding have to do with any of this? I'd argue Samsung, Google and Apple are just as supported by their governments. Why would Huawei get banned then? It's cus they didn't share stuff with the american government. And what about Samsung? That company literally runs South Korea.

You're the one who's brainwashed. Use some critical thinking.

Lister, 21 Sep 2024Because there are literally 15 smartphone manufacturers in ... moreIs the trifold phone not innovative enough for you? Do you think the cheap side fingerprint scanners on low end android phones that Apple are now claiming are camera buttons innovative?

Incidentally, all of the phone companies in China are private enterprises and not state enterprises and all are pushing out innovative tech in competing with each other.

Lister, 21 Sep 2024Because there are literally 15 smartphone manufacturers in ... moreBut i can concede that a triple fold is a good concept, making a phone that can become the size of a mini Tablet. It's just hugely expensive and not ready for the mass market yet.

Where are the innovations in display tech? Processors? Battery efficiency?
Making things bigger and smaller are hardly world shattering revelations.

And you're truly brainwashed if you think the Kirin's speed is "almost unmatched"

Anonymous, 20 Sep 2024Button open a menu. Menu is notch shaped and takes screen... moreIt isn't a shutter button? The Xperia 5 III I use has a conveniently located dedicated shutter and focus button but the camera still isn't closec to what you can get using a real camera with larger changeable lenses. Holding a real camera is much nicer, too. Of course, phones are only supposed to be used for three things. Posting on social media platforms, reading ads and being spied on. That's it, these days. That's why there's so much focus (pun intended) on the camera. It's also one of the reasons that they've become too extensive.

I can list a lot of the things that it's not great at but, overall, it's fine and still works well. I posted one problem it has, looking for a solution. I was personally insulted and accused of not using it correctly.

-, 21 Sep 2024I still feel conflicted about that bronze "Desert Tita... moreRegarding "Desert Titanium", here's what someone who saw it in real life said in an article on the web :

"During the iPhone 16 showcase at Steve Jobs Theater, I couldn't help but gravitate toward the Desert Titanium colorway. Before the "Glowtime" event on Sept. 9 that unveiled the new iPhone 16 series, leakers couldn't seem to agree on Desert Titanium's exact shade.

Some suggested that it's pink, dark gold, and even bronze. However, Desert Titanium is a barely there shade. The best way to describe it? It's as if someone dropped a little bit of pink in a bucket of beige paint.

As such, Desert Titanium is less camel and more sand when it comes to its hue. (The iPhone 16 Pro Max also comes in White Titanium, Black Titanium, and Natural Titanium.)"

Judging by the photos shown in the article and elsewhere, this appears to be correct.

Shall we learn how big its Ultrawide and Main cam panoramas are in PIXEL HEIGHT (i.e. max vertical height of panoramas from iPhone 16 Pro models? And shall we again have full-sized samples of panoramas like we used to have from GSMArena?
I have heard they only do 240 degree pans but we NEED to know the height of a pan in pixels. My old LG G7 Thing maxes out at about 3600 pixels high, but does 360 degree panoramas (a full circle, not 2/3rds of one.

In general a nice update with the IPhone 16 Pro Max. @GSMARENA team: When it will come to a test of the IPhone 16 Pro Max, please check whether any productivity features have made it into the phone (like split screen, where a user can operate with two apps being shown next to eachother on the screen - inkl. drag & drop). Another point of interest is, whether the IPhone can display content on a connected external 16:9 monitor without that letter-boxed / pillar-boxed crap of previous generations. Interesting in your test is, what is the bigger screen size good for. What has Apple done, to make that bigger screen size in an IPhone 16 Pro Max meaningful for the user? What's about a dektop mode? What's about a screen orientation system wide - based of the information from the phone's orientation senseor? How is the reception quality in the mobile network (LTE and 5G). Maybe you would find a reference corner in a garage for tricky reception conditions, where you can compare the IPhones and whatever other devices in your tests? A lot to find out during the test of an IPhone 16 Pro Max, dear @GSMARENA team! I'm so curious to read your findings!

Anonymous, 21 Sep 2024And there are even bigger batteries and tandem oleds incomingi think tandem oleds are only there for tablets and such, i think phones are too small to have that tech rn, besides. these phones get plenty bright already! all we need is SUSTAINED brightness. we all know these phones are bright for only 2 mins and then they go down.

Anyways, the batteries? YES PLEASE. Big batteries FTW!!

Idk how you think the Chinese phones are making "minor" improvements. The X100 Ultra's telephoto is larger in size than the S24, S24+ and the iPhone 15/15 Plus's main cams. The 14 Ultra has 2 lenses with floating lenses, Samsung doesn't even have one. The Magic6 Pro is a battery monster. The Find X7 Ultra is extremely balanced and has a HUGE 3x telephoto cam. The Pura 70 Ultra's speed is nearly unmatched and the phone has a thinner profile than others despite having a 1 incher.

The camera button isn’t “innovative”, same as every shutter button on normal cameras for decades. As for phones Sony has been doing this for a while and it wasn’t headline news!

I still feel conflicted about that bronze "Desert Titanium" color. It's not as awful as people expected it to be but it just. Looks okay? It reminds me of the old Mystic Bronze Samsung products but not as pretty. I should check it out in a store eventually
