nemesis8, 23 Sep 2024people in Europe/US have the best purchasing power compared... moreYou don't live in Europe, do you? I live in Germany and people are becoming poorer and poorer. The German government, which was elected in 2021 is the most hated government in the history of Germany. The governing parties currently have the lowest approval rating in the history of their existence. The GDP shrunk last year, so Germany entered recession.
Moreover, you seem to not understand how purchasing power works. High purchasing power doesn't mean that a price hike won't be an issue. A price hike results in lower purchasing power and that is an issue because you can buy less for the same money.

nemesis8, 23 Sep 2024people in Europe/US have the best purchasing power compared... moreIm telling this over and over again to my purse, and I mumble it to myself all the time, but the money does not increase. Hum...
So while we have a huge power of money here, everything is so expensive that in fact we don't have any more money left than in any other comparable economy.
And that means that a price increase from YouTube hurts, since looking videos are not the only thing that have to been paid in a month.
Eating less? Driving less? Moving in a smaller appartment? Or just stop using YouTube without ads... Let's think about it.

I've begun to realise Google has been going downhill since Sundar took over as CEO. Just my two cents.

Adds on YT should be like other advertisements in the media - press, radio, television. In many countries advertisements are supervised by state regulations. What can be advertised, on what terms, as well as advertising limits per hour, per day. It's probably time for Google/YouTube to start being taken under superviion by regulators just like other mass media.
