with laptop power draw?
i saw x100 pro vs x100 ultra battery drain test, with 100mah less x100 pro had more than 1 hour screen ON time while scoring like 2-3% less in benchmarks. Snapdragon is so bad at efficiency

But the other person's statement that these performance improvements are pointless is not correct.

Barti, 24 Sep 2024No, you are wrong. I switched from SD888 to MT9300 and i go... moreSnapdragon 888 and 8 gen 1(non plus version) were built by Samsung and are not efficient at all.. So you are comparing to outdated chipsets that were never that good in the first place. Dimensity 9300 is a good chipset but games are optimised for snapdragon and there's just more support for them. So while dimensity might top the odd benchmark in reality until dimensity becomes more popular snapdragon is the way to go because you're more likely to see 120hz optimisation in games with snapdragon first.

Look at iphone SE3 (2022) . At that point, battery endurance should be at least 2x more than iphone 6 (2014) . It was not.
People here ignore the fact new OS out of box and modern screens help to increase endurance. But they think it is 90% thanks to SoC.

So next year the 8 gen5 will reach base ps5 computational gpu power. Which no one ask for it and no mobile game developer will utilize it for next 5 years to come.

Snapdragon 695 hater, 24 Sep 2024I mean this is good news but I'm noticing with Snapdra... moreToo much performance in midrange would stop people buying the flagship. I only buy flagship for the better gpu and smoothness in gaming. If this performance was available at a lower price I would take it and so would many others making flagships pointless also meaning there would be less money to be made therfore killing innovation.

I hope they manage the heat from this chip.....this much power and consumption raise is not something that you can look down to
i know its not the same but these base clock speeds are even higher than intels 13700k base clock speed

Anonymous, 24 Sep 2024Power consumption increased significantly between Gen 2 and... moreNope. 8 gen 2 was just a big leap like 8 gen 4 will be. 8 gen 3 was more like an incremental increase in performance.. Also snapdragon have probably put a bit more effort in this year seeing as it has real competition with dimensity 9400..seeing as 9300 was better than 8 gen3 in some ways.

So much trouble for them to download a game to explode balls hahaha that a 2015 phone runs without problems!! We want more battery life and that the soc does not overheat too much when we demand it and greater range of bands

Power consumption increased significantly between Gen 2 and Gen 3. I imagine the same will be true for Gen 4.

Snapdragon 695 hater, 24 Sep 2024I mean this is good news but I'm noticing with Snapdra... moreThis doesn't seem to be a chipset performance issue
But an economical/ logistic issue in terms of adoption from OEMs
As we don't see 7 + gen etc chipset falling down to cheaper devices

Stuckie, 24 Sep 2024Pointless improvements. For what exactly? Playing asphalt n... moreRather short-sighted imho. Only when flagship segment performance improves decently, the mid-range, low-end SoCs will get decent performance improvements and everyone will benefit in the long run. If performance stagnated in the flagship segment, there won't be improvement in mid-range, low-end segments and everyone will lose out.
Also, it is not just about raw performance. Efficiency also improves in each generation, which helps in improving the battery life of the phones.

Snapdragon 695 hater, 24 Sep 2024I mean this is good news but I'm noticing with Snapdra... moreThere are some midrange chipsets that are decent, like the 7+ Gen 2/Gen 3, 8s Gen 3 and the 7 Gen 3/upcoming 7s Gen 3. We're slowly getting there in the midrange segment.
Budget tier isn't very good, but it is better than the current Mediatek budget segment.

I mean this is good news but I'm noticing with Snapdragon chips that the performance isn't increasing in the mid range and budget chips.
We still have to deal with garbage like the 6s gen 3, 6 gen 1, 4 gen 1, 7 gen 1 and the most legendary of them all the one that doesn't seem to die...yes you guessed it the 695!
It's all good having a brilliant flagship but it would be great to see that same performance uplift translated into the lower end chips.
