Windows 11 24H2 update now rolling out with Wi-Fi 7 support, Recall and plenty of AI features

03 October 2024
The improvements go from simple, e.g. Explorer can now create RAR archives, to advanced - from translated captions for any video to AI-smarts in Windows Search.

Well i have learned through the years to
1 never install Windows version before hotfix package 2 or at least 2y after release
2 never use N+1 of a good windows version, always N+2

Having expressed my concerns about Copilot+ and other AI-enhanced features, if the basic AI functions (like searching for files by description) can be done on the system and not on cloud-based servers, then I'm fine with it. As long as the onboard NPU chips are not sending my data to whatever cloud or server without my authorization, or manipulating settings I want left alone, then that's cool.

Anonymous, 04 Oct 2024absolutely bollocks statementMy laptop came with windows 7. Windows 11 was unsupported. I bypassed and installed it anyway. Even gave me blue screen of death because of old network driver. I managed to fix it. Now works better than with windows 7. So windows 11 works better than 7 and 8 and 8.1 and 10. That's why it is better.

ThankGodItsFriday, 03 Oct 2024Not sure I like some of the AI stuff, especially if it'... moreConsidering Copilot+ requires a 40+ TOPS NPU to be installed, I suspect it doesn't send anything to a server. If it does, I suspect you can ask a European user if they get notified about background uploads, as that bit kind of is required by law in that sensible part of the world.

Kress, 04 Oct 2024Stupid fix, if you have specialistic software i.e. AdobeCC,... moreEven without specialist software, Linux is not, in any way, comparable to Windows. You can't even uninstall software properly.

It cannot create RAR, only extract is possible.

Z3R0, 04 Oct 2024Simple fix, use Linux Stupid fix, if you have specialistic software i.e. AdobeCC, CorelDraw or ArcGIS ArcMap. No one form them work on Linux. So get lost with your penguin propaganda.

Simple fix, use both. Its crazy if you don't know the number of people or organizations that need windows

                    Simple fix, use Linux

Basically they are spamming with tons of useless and mostly unnoticeable "features".

Windows 11 already shows progress bars below app icons in the taskbar?

One feature I would really appreciate (but I don't see listed here) is Windows Explorer supporting long paths by default. So many 3rd party file explorers support it natively but Windows Explorer doesn't. Editing the Group Policy and registry doesn't help either.

I've just installed it as the fourth operating system on my PC on a Samsung SSD. I already have 2 Windows 10s and a Windows 11 23H2. I booted into 24H2. It is taking very long time until it starts and I keep hearing my WD 8TB keeps clicking and clacking as if it is broken and trying to initialize. Finally it initialized but the clicking clacking didn't stop. I don't hear any sound when any of the other OSes are running. There is definitely no problem with the drive because I scanned it with HD Sentinel and built-in scan disk utility in Windows 10 22H2.
I think it wants me to format it within the 24H2 because it cannot read the NTFS properly. It is full of stuff, so I won't format anything except the SSD I installed 24H2 on...
I will keep my 23H2 until it updates to 24H2. If I see any clicking clacking, I will stay on Windows 10 22H2 forever...

Much better than previous windows versions.

But does it have a quick toggle for dark mode? 😔

I think I'm going to wait until I can disable or remove all the Ai garbage, particularly Recall. I absolutely don't want that crap on my system.

Intel was pushing hard garbage 11 and now they lost with e and p cores 😂😂😂
People dont want a crappy OS especially not with fake data stealing AI with analfabet features and macos copy skin. Where is the old windows?

ThunderCrackR, 03 Oct 2024Hating much? You won't get it!! It's only for the... moreIt’s just annoying how buggy windows still is, got a new windows 11 laptop few days ago and the first thing after setup was part of the task bar at the bottom was cut off, at some point it’s enough.

Have 32GB ram planning upgrade to 64 or 128 so i dont care.

Not sure I like some of the AI stuff, especially if it's having to connect to the internet to perform an AI-based search on your files. Does it have to send the files to the servers, too?
