But the shell ("launcher" in Android fans terms) is more than capable. In fact LineageOS is the best Android ROM that I can think of.

Because I do not believe you have, and if you somehow HAVE used it, I highly question your taste for user experience if you claim One UI is worse than that.
There is no single UI that is perfect, give the same one (regardless who created it) to 10 different people and you'll hear 10 different complaints for it.

I agree they probably should've put the release a bit earlier, but I don't get why some people are messing their diapers over a 3-ish month wait. If anything it's more time to make it more stable and polished.

HarmonyOS sucks to this day and Apple manages to release major versions full of bugs despite having full conteol of the OS and only a handful of hardware configurations.

OneUI 7 is delayed to ensure it's at a good level of quality, something Apple messed up even without Apple Intelligence on the latest iOS version.. Like bro, if anything this shoes that Samsung cares about quality while Apple just pushes deadlines even when stuff isn't ready.

Why don't Samsung makes their own OS? Because they don't have the technology to make it. Apple and Huawei has their own technology to build it.

OneUI is full of features but its rather poor in terms of UI design,animations & UI consistency.
Notification panel is clumsy,fully extended it takes even more than entire screen,unnecessarily large icons for smartview,media control,Wifi,Bluetooth also their placement is not optimum for one hand usage.
Animation are also miles behind Apple & Pixel.
Animations on 120Hz panel of S23 feel even worse than Pixel 7 with its 90Hz.
UI design is outdated,compared to PixelUX,it feels years behind.
UI consistently is also poor as at one place it's designed for One hand usage like Settings page while in some places it needs both hands like in Notification panel.
Also reduce amount of preload junk & free up RAM,there are 2/3 sets of app services pre-installed even in flagship S devices. In budget devices it might be understandable but not if flagships.
OneUI is quite resource intensive UI that's why even flagships performance seems closer to mid-upper midranger territory.
So overall OneUI 7 needs significant improvements in all departments to make it worthwhile otherwise its gonna be the same clumsy,bloated,dated looking,heavy UI.
