04 October 2024
It keeps the all large core design of the 9300, but improves upon it.

At light and medium load the Dimensity 9300+ is about the same as efficient or more than the 8 Gen 3, the problem is at high usage load the 8 Gen 3 its more efficient. This SoC will probably have a 20W peak power consumption, no one wants that. Also when the device ages, Android and apps will need more performance and it will age worse because of that worse efficiency at higher loads.

Actually just by performance, the processor itself is not enough to make a full comparison, the UI does also contribute to the AnTuTu, some UI takes more ram and some doesn't. It's as simple as that.

It still holds the top scores with snapdragon 8 Gen 3 with Xiaomi 14 Pro with 1TB Titanium version coming close to second position.

Because snapdragon 8 Gen 5 won't be much of leap compared to 8 Gen 4. Right now Dimensity isn't able to clock the speeds at 4.2Ghz. Let's see. I am hoping to see improvement next iteration.

Dimensity 8400 powered devices are insanely powerful at the moment.

If you prefer to have a flagship phone, you should buy the phone with the best performance AP, which is Snapdragon 8Gen4. For a budget phone, you can try MTK9400.

nice but Mediatek ISP sucks and makes watercolored, overprocessed photos.

photos taken with Snapdragon retain details and have a soft look.

it's a matter of preference I guess, but I prefer Snapdragon here.

Mediatek just doesn't have enough supply. And most of it already bought for domestic market.
And waiting for another batch of chipset shipment would disrupt release cycle.

No, they're comparable options but phones with the MediaTek chip will be more affordable. You should choose the phone rather the chip it comes with.

Is Snapdragon still a better option than MediaTek?

I'm starting to consider getting a Phone with MediaTek as processor,
But my gut tells me that I should stick with Snapdragon since they're superior in terms of gaming.

Anonymous, 05 Oct 2024Time to have own cores. Anyway, so lame to currently h... moreI know you've had no choice but to double down on your "Mediatek bad" theory because you were one of those who thought D9300 would have a throttling issue based on a blatantly false internet rumour before its launch, but let me explain it to you - The reason why manufacturers use the SD chips for their highest end offerings is mostly about brand recognition and the band support.

D9300 absolutely crushed SD 8g3 in terms of CPU raw performance and efficiency. Mediatek placed a huge bet and managed to win when Qualcomm was still trying to stick to the older core layouts. The GPU on the Dimensity was no slouch either, trading blows with 8g3, and while there were a few areas Qualcomm had subtle advantages such as in modem and ISP, MediaTek's offering was more competitive than it ever had been overall.

This year, Qualcomm might regain the advantage with the new Oryon core design, but that doesn't make D9400 any less attractive. Their choice to abandon the inefficient "efficiency" cores was absolutely correct, and that's the direction Qualcomm is also choosing to follow this year, after all. Not to mention Mediatek's high-end chip will most likely be significantly cheaper than Qualcomm's comparable product..
