Kuo: iPhone 16 Pro early orders meet expectations but vanilla models see lackluster sales

10 October 2024
There is a negligible 3-5% reduction of component orders for iPhone 16 models.

The 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max have bigger screens and longer telephoto zoom than their predecessors, so I can see why people choose them. As for the vanilla 16 and 16 Plus, you won't miss out much from last year's 15 series.

If they changed the front look (like adding a punch-hole instead of the same capsule) their sales would have been higher than last year...not lower I strongly believe.

If you can shell out money for iPhones it's not much to pay more for the Pro models even if most of the Pro features aren't used at all for most users.

I think the iPhone slim will be the true test, would people pay more money than a Pro Max for a phone that has less features than even the base? My guess, even Apple fans aren't that stupid.

The iPhone 16 series seems to be playing it safe with just incremental upgrades yet asking for a wallet-thinning price in return. In these times of economic uncertainty, splurging on such a gadget might not be the smartest move for the average users. But, if you're one of those tech wizards who can turn an iPhone into a money-making machine, then that's a whole different ball game.

You can get Android devices in that price bracket with more storage, 120Hz display, similar or better OS update support, and a telephoto camera, sometimes even better battery life......

Isn't this the case literally every year? Every single year they're saying the same thing, yet every time the iPhones ended up being the most sold phones throughout. It's like everybdy has the same memory retention as a gold fish.

According to CNN, iPhone 16 sales have been below expectations. No one will pay $900 (including tax) for the iPhone 16 base model 128 GB with 60Hz refresh and 1080P OLED 6.1 inches screen without all the bells and whistles that similar $900-$1000 mobiles from Android world have. Only Carrier upgrade folks make most of the purchase that too restricted to USA, rest of the world, it may disappoint Apple.

Forbes said some days ago that it's the other way around: the Pro's are lacking in sales (12% down compared to prior model 15 pro/max) and the vanilla are doing fine. Let's see who's right when Apple shows the results of the quarter.

AI is such a gimmick like 120 hz which I don’t notice and have it turned off on my Flip3 to save battery life along with forcing only LTE because 5G also feels like a gimmick in 2024. So many gimmicks to keep suckers upgrading.

Having my titanium silver Galaxy S7 edge for a couple days, it is quite difficult to browse the web because Snapdragon 820 is quite dated. My Essential PH-1 also struggles with that as 835 has also showed it’s age. You know which one in my collection doesn’t struggle? Pixel 3. It’s a 6-year-old model and it rarely gives me issues. It still has the best camera, internal audio, and transfers fastest via Mac among all 8 of my phones. It might just be my favorite phone of all-time but it’s like a three-way tie with my Flip3 and Razr 5G. I’m surprised this S7e still holds an excellent charge!

I personally hated the S7 edge when I first owned it from Feb - Aug 2017. I couldn’t stand curve displays. I purchase the S7e in flawless condition for $40 on OfferUp, and I’m starting to appreciate what Samsung did during the 2010s. I believe the S7 edge especially in titanium silver is the best looking phone I’ve ever had and I’ve owned the space gray iPhone SE (2016) twice, 4S twice, 4 once, HTC One M7 thrice, and M8 once. It looks more futuristic than all of them. Apple has never made a nicer phone than Samsung released the S6 edge through Note 9. Samsung’s design run from 2015-2019 was better than MCU’s Phase 3.

Samsung is on a downfall as Xiaomi has overtaken them but Samsung remains the more innovative company. How did Xiaomi innovate except sell their phones cheaper? Samsung gave us the Note line with S-Pen, gave us removable battery/expandable storage/headphone jack for the first 5 gens of the S line, put a heart sensor on the S5, gave us foldables, put a camera that the Oppo Find X had in their Galaxy A80. Apple and Xiaomi don’t have the wide range that Samsung has which covers all demographics.

I personally hated Samsung for a long time. I used to call them Scamsung, Samsuck, or whatever came to mind. But without them, Apple would’ve dominated 14 years ago considering Google didn’t know how to brand their own products until 2016. The only thing I don’t care for with Samsung is their audio quality. It’s very balanced and neutral when I want more oomph. I recently got the Galaxy Buds Pro 2 and I don’t like them. I use Pixel 3 for anything audio.

Titanium silver S7 edge has a better design than every iPhone ever made and I owned iPhone since the original 2G model. Can you believe it’s from early 2016 and it looks better than every phone released during the last 6+ years only rivaled by the Oppo Find X from 2018? I keep looking at it when setting on a table and if released today, it looks better than every phone released in 2024. Then the Chinese like Vivo copied the glass slab that Samsung perfected from 2015-2019.

                                        My favorite Samsung designs -
S7 edge (again, in titanium silver)
S9 (in black, looks better than S10e)

Actually, Note7 looked better than S7e as it was only 2 mm taller and the curved edges weren’t as pronounced. But we all know what happened to it back in 2016. And I don’t care about the home button and bezels on the S7e as it gives the design more character than the repetition we started seeing from near bezel-less designs since the S8.
