Apple just need to put 120Hz on base model and use Si/C carbon to increase its battery capacity and they will see the sales reach its highest peak ever!

I always go for the aluminum over the stainless/titanium version of the iPhone for better thermals and weight.. but this year with the completely new chassis design I might spring for the pro to see if it can handle thermals as well as my 15.

why would you buy an expensive phone that still runs a 60hz screen and does not really offer any gmajor upgrades to the iphone 15? Ye, if you are into AI-Stuff, you might switch from an iphone 13, 14 or 15 to the 16, but in general, you dont get THAT(!) much more than you had before.
Also, at least over here, smaller phones are "the thing", and many people cling on to their iphone 13 minis until they got a reason to switch. AI is not that reason...well Apple doesnt offer AI over here for now, so there is really not a single reason to switch for most people not wanting "pro" or "Pro max" features.

One factor is that people who spend that much on the Pro are more likely to upgrade every year than those who get the vanilla.

No wonder Samsung imitates Apple in everything possible when it comes to phones. At the launch of iPhones, Apple sells more units than Samsung sells all year from its S series.

You make a base model and put it into the flagship price tier to support your Pro model sales. Of course, the base model will sink. That is the plan, later, they will ditch it as they did with Mini.

Anonymous, 10 Oct 2024You know why? Because of slower chipset and lower refresh r... moreThe 2% slower chipset because of smaller caches, and the slightly smoother display? People here are detached from reality. The Pros have the design with the 3 cameras and that‘s why people buy it. And also because the pricing gap is so narrow (on purpose) and it’s advertised to be better (tech reviewers claiming so too are part of it). If an average consumer goes to the compare page to actually look at the differences of the models, they are already more savvy than over half of the people who buy phones (yes, also those who buy Android phones. Non-tech people who have no idea about tech don’t suddenly become any more knowledgeable in that area because they buy Android)

New guy, 10 Oct 2024Hopefully they actually try to improve it, unlike the rumou... moreI too found this rumor horrible. But the article talks about the base models, so both the 16 and 16 Plus. And the Plus has always sold worse than the smaller one. So if they were to remove a model, the Plus would be the first to go. And the base models in general are important for Apple because the two previous generations continue to be sold at lower prices. They are part of the pricing ladder
SE -> 2 year old base -> 1 year old base -> current base -> Pro

Another reason could be that the phones are already enough powerful to run every game or app and you really don't need to buy a new base iPhone if you have iPhone 12 for example. Unless you want new camera, its the same shit.

I didn't realise that Kuo was talking about early "oders", even if he is German. I mean, the phrase "early or meet expectations" certainly doesn't make sense to me, but maybe I just don't understand GSMArena's higher sense of being that is definitely not just a title mistake but a carefully articulated title.

That is great news because it means more of an incentive for Apple to make the base models better. And I like the weight of the base model more, so I‘m for that.
