Sony Xperia 1 VI gets Wi-Fi 7 connectivity via software update

          As it is, Xperia 1 VI is nice, but it is outrageously overpriced against the competition (real street price, not MSRP).

            Hopicus, 7 hours agoUseless because 99% people don't use wifi 7.I hope you're not one of those people who discouraged others from getting wifi 6 routers because they need to be on a certain data plan speed.
            Which doesn't matter anyways since wifi 6 provides more stable connection than wifi 5 routers.
            And Xperia 1 VI buyers are mostly the type who are capable of buying wifi 7 routers.

                  Hopicus, 7 hours agoUseless because 99% people don't use wifi 7.Maybe it's 99% of yourself. You CAN'T speak for others!
                  Me and many of my friends already have Wi-Fi 7 router which benefits local file transfers and streams between Wi-Fi 7 devices (for me it's PC and laptop, together with my smartphone that all support Wi-Fi 7).

                  And soon gonna buy Pico 4 Ultra which also support Wi-Fi 7 to complement my setup.

                    If this extends to the hotspot function that is amazing. I have a pair wifi card with wifi 7 support, so it may actually provide much better speeds as well as a more stable connection over wifi 6

                            Reesta68, 7 hours agoI'm more interested in when they'll be launching ... moreI just want a decent point and shoot camera app to come to the V, the cameras on this phone are horrendous compared to the ZF5 and Pixel Fold 1.

                            I hate the fact the V comes without a bloody weather app, and uses Google photos instead of it's own gallery app.

                            The flashlight is dimmer than the display itself.

                            Sony aught to sort a lot of things, chasing a crowd with "professional" video and photography applications is just dull.

So what, devices shouldn't have supported it until it is full scale everywhere? You want even more planned obsolescence?

                                      Hopicus, 7 hours agoUseless because 99% people don't use wifi 7.Sony phone knows for it longevity, as well if 4 years later with that SoC that still capable on 2028, probably wifi 7 already could have wide usage compare to today, which at that moment we might see wifi 8 or 9 introduce.
