There's also a twist regarding the chipset powering it.

These scores here are also only a 3 to 5% jump from the A35's Exynos 1380, which means no difference in day-to-day usage. But the lack of a bigger performance leap is indeed disappointing. I remember when the Galaxy A32 had a very substantial leap in performance over the A31, even outdoing the A51 by a large margin and approaching the A71.

Luke, 10 hours agoI've never had a Samsung that could survive 6 years. A... moreI'm still using the Galaxy S6 I bought in 2015 and it works like a charm.

Boggy, 10 hours agoPlease come back on arena in 2031, and tell us how you used... moreThere are literally millions upon millions of people the world over who use their smartphones for several years. And, from what I've seen among Androids, Samsung and OnePlus are the best when it come to longevity.

My brother in law used a Samsung Galaxy S3 for seven years. An uncle's Galaxy A30s from 2019 is still working. A client of mine is still using a Galaxy A10. My Galaxy A51 is nearing 5 years and I plan on using it for several more months. An uncle and a cousin of mine both have OnePlus devices that are 6+ years old and still going strong. I also have a client who has a Motorola from 2019 still doing well. My mother in law's Xiaomi Mi A2, which she bought in late 2018 or early 2019, died in March-April of this year.

Yes. Countless people use their devices for that long. Device build quality and software support are important for them.

Boggy, 9 hours agoThe real question is does anybody buying them? One thing... moreLet's assume you bought that A52s (for €150 is not bad) and you use it for 2-3 years wouldnt you benefit it it had 6 years update policy from 2021? Because as it is right now it reached end of life while it's capable phone.

Hemedans, 10 hours agoNot every thing is about you, just look at market are 6 yea... moreThe real question is does anybody buying them?
One thing is for a phone to exist, and another for someone to buy it.
In Czechia those second hand older phones (in second hand shops) are very close in price to newer models.
              Example:
              - Galaxy A50 (second hand quality B phone, 2400czk, around 95EUR).
              - Galaxy A51 (second hand quality B phone, 2500czk, around 99EUR).
              - Galaxy A52 (second hand quality B phone, 3700czk, around 145EUR).
              - Galaxy A52s (second hand quality B phone, 3800czk, around 150EUR).

              You get the picture.

If I will be in the market for a second hand phone, I will definitely not buy the A50, I will go with something like A52s minimum (if I will have a tight budget, otherwise I will go with A53 or even A54).
And the price difference is not that high from the models I listed above. I mean is not like people will afford an 100EUR phone, but not an 150EUR phone, let's be honest here.

I talk with some people working in this second hand shop. And they say many times, they end up recycling the older phones or just throw them away after some time, because nobody will buy them anymore or they will just break at some point.
Almost all people coming to that shop are looking into newer models.

Boggy, 10 hours agoPlease come back on arena in 2031, and tell us how you used... moreNot every thing is about you, just look at market are 6 years low/midrange phone still available? I see lot of galaxy A10-A50, redmi note 8/9 series etc.

You may not use your phone for 6 years but definetely after selling that phone or donate it to someone else they will benefit from those software updates.

Because I am pretty sure you won't use a phone like this for so long. I am almost certain even people buying flagship phones will not use them for that long.
So, why all this talk from people, that longer software support (I mean longer than 3-4 years) is somehow the definitive factor in choosing a phone or another?

How many people will use the same phone in 2030-2032? 5%? 1%?
So, why is all this 6-8 years software support all of sudden so damn important?

I think is just marketing. Just to make people buy one brand or another.

Nobody knows what will happen in 2 years time, let alone 6-8 years. To tell the truth, I hope I will still be alive in 6-8 years. I am not making plans for that far ahead. Certainly not buying a phone with the promise from the manufacturer that they will support it for 6-8 years.

An A series with Snapdragon 👀. A series with raw and camera2 API support 👀

A16 should get Android 21 too - while it started from android 14, Samsung could make an exception and bring it to android 15 without being part of the 6 years given, and after android 15 would the 6 years start.

Take A42 5G for example - launched with One UI 2.5, was supposed to get 2 os updates, and got One UI 5.1.

                            A55 in india costs 32k,A35 for 26k while S23FE cost 30k,S23 cost 38k.

Except battery life there should be no absolute reason why one should not go for last year flagships instead of A35,A55.

A Snapdragon-powered A3x that'll have the latest Android out of the box and six years of updates to come?

That, right there, makes it likely to be my future default "what do I get?" choice for most people who don't want to pay flagship money and don't need flagship features. We'll see what the pricing and reviews look like, but this is a very promising starting point.
