Nick Tegrataker, 20 Oct 2024I should've been clearer with my wording. What I meant... more" Quad Bayer sensor is capable of resolving a comparable amount of details to a regular Bayer sensor of the same pixel count provided that the output is processed by mature demosaicing algorithms to compensate for a loss in chroma resolution. The fact that X100 Ultra's 2x shots are indistinguishable from ones from a dedicated 2x 12MP telephoto camera on other phones already says a lot."
Not even the tech creator believes this. Same applies to all photography websites.

Eduard33, 20 Oct 2024Why no love for the Oppo?Find X8 Pro has a disappointing camera setup. And I don't know if the leaks are true but apparently the Ultra will use LYT-600 3x tele just like the Pro. That's not good. Straight downgrade from last year's IMX890 which was amazing for portrait photography. Vivo is just better this year. My current phone is a Find X7U, but I'll be switching to the Vivo X200 Pro. I need to test dat amazing HP9 tele lol

Would be great if gsmarena could review the standard version as well. There was no full review for the standard version of the last 3 generations from x80 to x100 (just a hands on for the last 2 generations). Same goes for the Find x8. No reviews for the standard version of the find x7 and find x6. Magic series as well. Hopefully more of these launch in Europe this year and maybe they will be covered then.

jiyen235, 20 Oct 2024I believe the daylight shot differences are just down to se... moreI should've been clearer with my wording. What I meant was that LYT-818 uses the newer technology to compensate for a smaller physical sensor area but it's still not enough to overcome the massive size advantage that LYT-900 has.
"...808 Pureview's shots, it'll have more detail than the LYT-900 imo because it's a naturally hi-res sensor that's plenty big, pixel binned phones can never be considered hi-res..."
A Quad Bayer sensor is capable of resolving a comparable amount of details to a regular Bayer sensor of the same pixel count provided that the output is processed by mature demosaicing algorithms to compensate for a loss in chroma resolution. The fact that X100 Ultra's 2x shots are indistinguishable from ones from a dedicated 2x 12MP telephoto camera on other phones already says a lot.
"Also, aren't Vivo using the V3+ chip here to handle the imaging duties?"
We don't know if *all* of the tasks within the processing pipeline take place within the V3+ chip. It's very possible that some of the earliest steps in the processing (e.g. Demosaicing) are still handled by the SoC's ISP which would affect the overall image quality considerably.

Nick Tegrataker, 20 Oct 2024Unsurprisingly, X100 Ultra beats X200 Pro when it comes to ... moreI believe the daylight shot differences are just down to sensor size and not "advanced technologies". I come to this conclusion because it seems to me that a certain sensor size with a certain megapixel count has a limit to how much fine detail it can capture. Take a look at even the 808 Pureview's shots, it'll have more detail than the LYT-900 imo because it's a naturally hi-res sensor that's plenty big, pixel binned phones can never be considered hi-res, they're made to be used for binned down photography so their high res shots are never up to par.
Also, aren't Vivo using the V3+ chip here to handle the imaging duties? Or do these phones use BOTH the Soc ISP AND the dedicated ISP to process photos? If that's the case then i think yeah maybe mediatek are messing something up but imo it's just launch day phone vs mature software phone. The X100 Ultra itself was pretty icky at launch and got a lot better after a month.

As expected, the X200 Pro is not as good as the X100 Ultra in terms of the main cam but damn the zoom cam is a bit tweaked too, dunno how to feel about that, feels slightly oversharpened. Maybe updates'll fix it idk. Anyways, the main cam is indeed struggling in low light, you can just feel it in the lower details/higher NR artifacts/longer exposure artifacts. The X100 Ultra in contrast seems to be more "effortless" with its night shots. Even in the daytime shots, the X100 Ultra seems more composed, seems to me that larger sensors with greater technologies will always win.
Even an X100 Pro user should see this as a minor upgrade and should wait for a year longer, as always. It's never been a good idea to upgrade yearly since like 2018 or something.
Thumb-up to GSMArena for uploading these comparison shots in this "in for review" post.

So Vivo have downgraded the wired charging speed, the wireless charging speed and the main camera since the X100 Pro...
Phone manufacturers might as well start releasing new phones every other year as there isn't really any meaningful upgrades happening anymore.
It would also be better for the environment since so many of them claim to care about it.

Unsurprisingly, X100 Ultra beats X200 Pro when it comes to the sheer amount of details being captured with their main cameras - While LYT-818 would be good enough to match or come ahead of X100 Pro's IMX989 which is based on older generation technologies, it's still a bit noisier than Ultra's newer LYT-900, so more noise reduction needs to be applied to the image which smudges out the finest textures in high-frequency areas in those daylight shots. X100 Ultra's lens is quite a bit larger too(capturing around 30% more light per exposure time), so it naturally dominates X200 Pro in low light, too.
What surprised me was the difference in image quality between the telephoto cameras of these phones, which are supposed to be identical when simply looking at the spec sheet. It seems like Snapdragon's ISP is doing a bit better job extracting details during the day, while Dimensity has a lead when the light gets dimmer.
X200 Pro looks to be a great upgrade from X100 Pro, but if one already owns X100 Ultra, they shouldn't be concerned too much about it until X200 Ultra comes out.
