Slimmer and a bit narrower, but a millimeter taller than the A35.

This is definitely not a copy of the iPhone 16 camera island let alone a blatant one. No one with average sight would confuse one for another. I have a poor sight, but I can very easily tell both apart. Blindfold me, even, and by merely feeling both, I'd tell them apart with 100% accuracy.

Yes, you provided the definition of "blatant", but either you don't understand what that definition means or you're simply trolling.

Blatant: completely lacking in subtlety; very obvious. So yes, I understand the meaning very well and it applies to this situation with that nuance is that all vendors are in the business of copying each others (because it's easy and cheaper). It's the open and voluntary choice made by them to not think about an own identity while claiming and market the very opposite.

And most importantly, I mentioned that I don't dislike it. I'm just stating that there is an enormous lack of imagination in the entire business where companies like Apple and Samsung being looked at as bench-marking stuff.

jiyen235, 20 Oct 2024exactly! Flatter sides might allow you to grip phones more ... moreThat's another thing that has always puzzled me, the usage of a case. I always joke about it with friends like "If aliens would be watching us they would shout throughout the galaxy to stay away from earth. These people are nuts, the design neath stuff and then the tuck it away in an ugly plastic thing.". It sounds funny (to me at least) but I'm dead serious about it. We pay big money for design pieces and then we hide it in something ugly. Why the hell does a phone need to use materials that are either slippery, get smudged easily, are fragile or all of the before? If you are going to tuck it in a case anyway, just design a phone that doesn't need an additional cover. It will be ugly (although I don't think that) from the start. Regardless of the chosen solution, it will ruin the initial design, look and feel. In short, we, humans, are a bunch of fools sometimes. All is focused on the looks and the practical (non active) aspects are skipped for the sake of design.

So much controversy surrounding the design lol. Honestly, the only thing I care about is whether this phone will end up being good or not.

atichko, 19 Oct 2024My sight is fine, thank you. And if you would have read tho... moreApple didn't shift back. Only the design of the camera islands on vanilla iPhone 16 and Plus is vertical. And only those two have two lenses; the Pros have 3. Vanilla iPhone 12 was also vertical. The difference is simply the bump.

You said that this is a blatant copy of the new iPhone 16 design which is definitely not true. Maybe you should go look up the meaning of the word "blatant". If your sight is fine, then your perception isn't.

If so, I fully ... moreany phone with decent chip inside & consequently good performance at affordable price is welcome. unfortunately seems Samsung is doing the opposite nowadays. that what was Samsung about not now though. your design wasn't the reason we buy Samsung its the promise of long lifespan without losing performance. my old man is still using a one hell son of gun nokia 6600, Galaxy A71 was the one for me so design is nothing.

atichko, 20 Oct 2024One more thing, I get it that people are more fond of cinem... morei only like taller screen ratios on phones because of the comfort. 16-18.5:9 displays are only comfortable till 6.2-ish inches. Any more and you'll need 19.5-20:9 displays to hold comfortably. I myself love wider displays because 60-ish % of content is in 4:3 or 16:9 so wider screens are better in that regard. So yeah there's that.

Flatter sides might allow you to grip phones more easily but what about comfort? If I feel uncomfortable holding my 1000+ dollar phone, how is this a premium phone? This is all anti-consumer, they're gonna bring back curves but at a higher cost OR act like the curves are revolutionary again.

And besides, for grip, you can just get cases, 95% of people use cases so the "grip" argument is invalid as well. This is just plain stupidity from consumers, buying into this thing. The flat sides look good but that's it. Looks

So I'm guilty, give me wider instead of taller.

jiyen235, 19 Oct 2024omg you get it!! you're spitting so much facts man i l... moreIndeed, indeed. I have fond memories of devices with curved backs such as the early Motorola G series the Nokia 808 PureView when it comes to smartphones. Or when going further back the early Nokia feature phones like the 3110, the 6110 (and it's upgraded variations) and many many others from different brands. A time it was more important to have an ergonomically shaped devices that would fit nicely in your hand-palm. Nowadays it's flat, flatter and flattest because otherwise it would wobble on a ... desk. So, must we understand that people became so lazy that holding a phone to do whatever you want is too hard and heavy (that last part might be the only valid reason) that we prefer having something that lies flat on a desk instead of being comfortably in your hand?
Many designers forgot about that part in their quest for big, bigger, biggest .Design is not only aesthetics but also ergonomics.

Make the camera flush and it's perfect

Dr. Watson, 19 Oct 2024...did you forget about the S21 and S22 series' design?i was hesitant in making such a sweeping generalization just because of my beloved designs of the Note20 Ultra and the S21 Ultra.

The S22 Ultra is original yeah but oh so boring and bland. If it weren't for the colors it'd have been absolutely poor looking, like the S23 and S24 Ultra.

My point is, barring the S21 Ultra's beautiful curves and the Note20 Ultra's monstrous yet pretty design, Samsung's been just trying its best to copy Apple, post S10 era. The Note 10 looked way too much like the iPhone X in terms of the camera island, the S20 Ultra was bland yet the Note20 Ultra seemed to have some style even tho it was similar in design. Only the S21 Ultra is a properly original and beautiful design. The rest have been seen one way or the other before.

That's all my opinion though. Basically, even if Samsung's designs are "original" like the S22 Ultra, the base design has been copied off of Apple, Samsung used to make centered "visor"/camera island type designs but then they started copying the separated, left sided cameras that Apple has.

jiyen235, 19 Oct 2024you think Samsung has had an original design in the past 2-... more...did you forget about the S21 and S22 series' design?
