jiyen235, 19 Oct 2024omg you get it!! you're spitting so much facts man i l... moreIndeed, indeed. I have fond memories of devices with curved backs such as the early Motorola G series the Nokia 808 PureView when it comes to smartphones. Or when going further back the early Nokia feature phones like the 3110, the 6110 (and it's upgraded variations) and many many others from different brands. A time it was more important to have an ergonomically shaped devices that would fit nicely in your hand-palm. Nowadays it's flat, flatter and flattest because otherwise it would wobble on a ... desk. So, must we understand that people became so lazy that holding a phone to do whatever you want is too hard and heavy (that last part might be the only valid reason) that we prefer having something that lies flat on a desk instead of being comfortably in your hand?
Many designers forgot about that part in their quest for big, bigger, biggest .Design is not only aesthetics but also ergonomics.

Dr. Watson, 19 Oct 2024...did you forget about the S21 and S22 series' design?i was hesitant in making such a sweeping generalization just because of my beloved designs of the Note20 Ultra and the S21 Ultra.
The S22 Ultra is original yeah but oh so boring and bland. If it weren't for the colors it'd have been absolutely poor looking, like the S23 and S24 Ultra.
My point is, barring the S21 Ultra's beautiful curves and the Note20 Ultra's monstrous yet pretty design, Samsung's been just trying its best to copy Apple, post S10 era. The Note 10 looked way too much like the iPhone X in terms of the camera island, the S20 Ultra was bland yet the Note20 Ultra seemed to have some style even tho it was similar in design. Only the S21 Ultra is a properly original and beautiful design. The rest have been seen one way or the other before.
That's all my opinion though. Basically, even if Samsung's designs are "original" like the S22 Ultra, the base design has been copied off of Apple, Samsung used to make centered "visor"/camera island type designs but then they started copying the separated, left sided cameras that Apple has.

Really weird that Samsung would only give the A36 and presumably the A56 a different design when the rest of the A-Series is still rocking the 3 individual camera lenses like the S-Series...anyway, I'm not loving this. I prefer the 3 individual lenses. I think the A56 would look sick with a matte glass back and 3 individual camera lenses. Crossing fingers the A56 won't get the same design as the A36.

The design is honestly a step back in time. But I think if they can work on making the phone lighter and slimmer it should make the final user experience better than the A35. I also want to see them address the heating issues and lack of proper hardware differences over the previous generation. The bottom line is that Samsung needs to properly test the AX6 series before going to market - to avoid all the bad PR they got with the Ax5 series.

There's a limit on what is, and can be 'Original'.
There are only so many designs that you can usefully produce before it's a 'copy' in some way, shape or form.
Given the designs that the Chinese brands have used, I'd say there are very few options left for originality.
Take a design and perfect it rather and changing something for the sake of 'Innovation'.

Anonymous, 18 Oct 2024I hope they'll come up with an A46 version around 6.2 ... moreShould that have been A56 instead of 46?
If so, I fully agree. A compact, mid-range would be great from Samsung.

And yeah, different generations have different trends, now it's the "flat sides, somewhat flat back and front" era. Like bro, where did the uniqueness go? And let's ignore uniqueness, where did aesthetics and comfort go? 2015-2020-ish era of smartphones had the most comfortable and good looking phones imo. And even if phones were big, they were quite comfortable for example the Oneplus 8/8 Pro, due to their taller aspect ratio. The S8 and stuff era phones were wider because they were only THEN getting out of the 16:9 era so the 18-18.5:9 era was a transition phase, then we got the beautiful 20:9 displays and now everyone's trying to copy Apple and go back to 18.5-19.5:9 like look at the super wide Samsung S24 Ultra for example.
The X200 Pro is slightly wider than the X100 Pro, it doesn't matter a lot if you just look at the numbers but man, every millimeter matters on phones imo. Then look at the Xiaomi 14 Pro compared to the Xiaomi 13 Pro. I'm NOT against flat screens, I'm against wider screens.

Cyberchum, 18 Oct 2024If, to you, that camera island looks like the one on iPhone... moreMy sight is fine, thank you. And if you would have read thoroughly what I wrote then you would have seen that I don't dislike this setup. And yes, as stated in another post, you cannot argue that Apple shifted back to the design of the X with regards to the camera setup, meaning vertically on a kind of isle and at the same time Samsung redefines it's setup that was already vertically but now grouped again in a single isle instead of the totally separated lenses. The proportions on the back are similar but OK, that counts for many other brands. The general idea behind the thought is the total lack of imagination to make a square slab less boring. At least, the iPhone (vanilla one) only has 2 lenses instead of 3 for the A36 (and others). That's another topic where it's time to get rid of useless lenses for the sole sake of having them.

jiyen235, 18 Oct 2024yeah exactly, the timing of this design is suspicious!! I h... moreThe sad thing is that all brands to the same. One comes out with some new details in terms of design (yes, details as it's never ground braking) and all others follow one way or the other. You can see that in stuff like the frame for example, then they are rounded, then they are flat, then they are in between. Or the shape of the phone, then it's completely square, then it has rounded corners (with different variations of it), then it's square again. What's also sad is that all brands have one design language for all it's devices. It would be more fun if one brand had different designs according the the category it resides in. I know, I know, the finances dictates what is done and what not. And yes, it's more risky but it would show balls to do it.
