nubia Z70 Ultra's 35mm camera will have a variable aperture, it gets demoed on video

20 October 2024
It's just the bare camera module, the design is still kept secret. The aperture can be smoothly adjusted instead of jumping between the two extremes.

Given how sensitive the new sensors nowadays, variable aperture should become necessary. I hope Nubia would commit with the variablt aperture development and wouldn't just implement it in the Z70 Ultra and would just become abandoned in the future.

Also Nubia should add LHDC by default with their Z60 Ultra Global ROMs. Currently the Z60 Ultra Global has no LHDC support.

In November 2024, Nubia will officially launch its latest flagship phone, the Z70Ultra, marking the first mass production application of the 1.5K true full-screen technology without any holes. This news comes from the well-known digital blogger @DigitalChatStation, who revealed that the new phone will be equipped with an advanced screen provided by BOE, which is expected to reshape users’ perceptions of mobile visual experiences.

Please! Please don't use under display camera! 😭

Just hope that it will not gonna be messed/limited by software... or worst, by not that friendly GUI

          Not interested.
          They use AI processing.
They say AI photography in their website.
          Ewwww.
Chalkboard painting looking photos and AI processing deletes small details, like hair and knuckles.

Vivo X100 Ultra uses AI processing too, but only in dark places and big zooms.
In bright places it uses 0 AI processing.
And in pro mode Vivo X100 Ultra uses also 0 AI processing and in dark places it also uses 0 AI processing.

I love normal image processing, amazing big pixels.
          Noisy?
Sometimes, but I prefer hardware pixels/ normal image processing.
          AI processing looks ugly!!!!

Vivo X200 Ultra next year will be a masterpiece!!!!
Vivo X200 Ultra > Samsung Galaxy s25 Ultra abd ZTE Z70 Ultra.

I own Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra and Vivo X100 Ultra, so I have experience and Vivo X100 Ultra has superior camera image processing.
I use the 200MP 85mm sensor for landscape photography.
          I love landscape photography.

Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra also uses AI processing 24/7.
          You can't put it off.
In normal mode or pro mode.
          Ugly photos!!!!

Normal image processing will always be the king.
          AI processing will always suck.
Chalkboard painting looking photos and small details being deleted???
          Who wants that?
          Seriously, some people like that?

Boom, exactly what it needs. The shallow depth of field on z60 is great for portraits, absolutely useless for everything else.

hope vivo and oppo change to 35mm instead. coz i set default focal to 35mm from default 23mm (1.5x)

Boldpixel, 18 Oct 2024Interesting. If only 35mm was more common.35mm is truly underrated in the smartphone camera world. Sometimes 24-27mm equivalent is too wide, and the corners have visible distortion. 35mm is more neutral, but not compressed.

Nice. This will be a blast for manual shooting, as well as for video shooting with the smooth aperture. Now I hope they'll pick a great sensor to go along with it.

Tranquillow, 18 Oct 2024You are absolutely right BBK has yet to release a phone ... moreunder display camera is mostly a gimmick and only for "hardcore gamers" or people who are obsessed with zero notches. Variable aperture is a better upgrade imo

I'm really happy to see variable aperture slowly going mainstream on smartphones. There's so much you can do with various aperture values.

It's interesting to see ZTE going with the 6 straight blade aperture - Background bokeh balls will have a very distinct hexagonal shape unless the aperture is wide open, which definitely adds to the character but could appear distracting depending on the situation.
Funny how Xiaomi uses rounded apertures even though their lenses would naturally struggle more to create a nice defocused background since it's very wide (23mm equivalent) anyway.

ZTE needs to be competitive in terms of general image processing though.. Xiaomi, Huawei and BBK are so ahead of ZTE in this segment and a unique 35mm lens isn't good enough for them to keep up with the rest (especially given the fact that they use a significantly smaller sensor than others).

My wishlist for the z70 ultra (or z80 if it's too late 😉)
                          1) same sensor on 3 lenses for consistency (1/1.5" is ok)
                          2) keep the 18, 35, 85 choice!
                          3) merge street with pro mode. The street algorithm is good in Auto mode for choosing the good shutter speed. But there are no raw files. Pro mode auto speed is very bad!
                          4) give the user the option to tweak the image processing. Reduce dramatically sharpness and noise reduction. The jpg processing is too aggressive. The photos are ruined and unprintable.
Photos developed from raw files are beautiful and perfectly printable!

Boldpixel, 18 Oct 2024Interesting. If only 35mm was more common. And the big sensor 18mm of the z60u is also a gem!

And Nubia z60 Ultra is the first phone that made a lens choice that makes sense!

They should let the user decide the amount of sharpness or noise reduction desired. I would turn them down for more natural results.

Go watch the photography review of the Z60 Ultra and Z60 Ultra Leading Version on the YouTube channel "Through Jermaine's Lens". He demonstrates everything on the stock camera app, and the results are very good.
Sure, maybe GCam is better, but the photos coming out of the stock app are still very good.
