nubia Z70 Ultra's 35mm camera will have a variable aperture, it gets demoed on video

It's just the bare camera module, the design is still kept secret. The aperture can be smoothly adjusted instead of jumping between the two extremes.

FWC ( full well capacity) is 80% compared to Type 1.0 , while its size is less than half.

It is basically acts like sensor that has almost 100mm2 area.
For example 1/1.28 has about 73mm2.
This tech applied to Type1.0, would make it above 4/3 and close to APSC.

It takes less space, generated less heat. Smaller lenses required.

To me, even a 1/2.3" exmor T single cam at 26mm would be enough.
It would beat LYT700/701. While no bump, like Z series.

İ wonder is it possible to have continuous zoom mechanism for main camera to combine ultra wide and wide. Like 16mm 24mm or 16mm 35mm cameras . İt should not give bigger bump also since it is not a zoom camera .it should fit. Especially 16mm 24mm is possible . (Note: i don't speak about pura 70 ultra like mechanisim . Pura 70 ultra camera go out. My idea is change focal length totally inside phone ). 16 24mm is very small gap and allow us full quality ultra wide and wide.

Interesting. If only 35mm was more common.

ZTE has variable aperture ON A 35mm CAM before Vivo or Oppo, this is pathetic from them.

Darth Caesium, 18 Oct 2024Imagine if they were to use such a sensor that had a stacke... morethe phone would be too expensive if they had the stacked sensor. Besides, there's no proper evidence to suggest the stacked sensor itself provides any huge benefit compared to let's say, a larger sensor. The benefits are there, if utilized smartly but still not enough to overpower actually larger sensors.

Also, i don't think ZTE's bad, it's just that you're comparing ZTE to greats like Oppo, Xiaomi and Vivo and those are the top dogs right now. Compared to them ZTE seems bad but price match stuff and pound for pound, ZTE's actually not too shabby. Giving the superior hardware also puts ZTE above the other manufacturers imo.

Anonymous, 18 Oct 2024At 35mm, probably at most 1/1.3 . To avoid bump too thick. Imagine if they were to use such a sensor that had a stacked design. Like the LYT-818 but stacked instead. It would outperform everyone else (if ZTE's software didn't suck, let's be real here 😭) while having an actually very useful focal length, and with variable focal aperture to boot. This could be much closer to actual DSLR cameras in terms of results, and be much closer to their levels of usefulness.

Sensor size, manufacturer...? Those hold more importance than variable aperture.

The only thing left, is to fix their post-processing of the pics and vids, without gcam its impossible to use.
