I personally really like the designs of the RedMagic (last 3 generations) and the ROG Phone 8.
Personally I've NOT owned either ... I'm just 1yr in fully Android, longest I ever have since the LG Nexus 4!
I'm hoping This ROG Phone 9 has some improvements in the hardware I'm reading has fallen poorly from owners' experiences of the 7 yet mostly the v8 model.
I FULLY respect and understand the criticism ... I'm thinking its better to voice your opinions in a direct email to ASUS Corporate Support, more popular social media platforms and have them take notice. Beyond dropping sales someone within Asus has to take notice.
Hoping Security Updates and Software Update support improves.

As for me who paid Asus with lots of money for these ROG Phones that has a weak motherboard, can you stop us from complaining? RedMagic is really WAY BETTER than this one. REALTALK. Seems like Asus is combining both Zenfone into their ROG Phones cause its no longer selling well. This is a big mistake as the ROG Phones design is now very generic and ugly. Plus, their customer support is a big fraud and super costly. Add to it the very low quality motherboard they put in every ROG Phones they had.
My previous ROG Phones 5S and 6Pro just got its motherboard broken just within several months of gaming usage. Switching to RedMagic 9Pro now is the best thing I did.
Its more gaming centric, with improved rear cams too, and very large battery.

Sticking with the 8 template for another year did seem the most likely route to me. I was kinda hoping for some cut features to get squeezed back in, but maybe next redesign.

Well, I'm glad I own the last decent Rog phone (Rog 7) they got rid of all of the best features that had me choose the Rog phone over the competitors. Those days are over...

I got the 8 but stil... moreExactly, the ROG Phone 8's problem is that it's a smartphone for no one. Want great gaming phone? Get Redmagic. The camera compromises were not that problematic when it was ROG Phone 5 and they were not that far behind the competition, but when you put the ROG Phone 8 against something like OnePlus 12, it can't win on any way, even price. OP12 does literally everything better, and it will game as well as ROG.
They really shot themselves in the foot with that change in direction.

I hate this as a 3x rog phone owner.
I got the 8 but still hate the camera hole and really miss the front firing speakers. I'm probably going back to Samsung as I'd only be missing the side USB port and would be gaining a better camera and better updates. I miss the macro too.
And while I'm here. Add the macro camera back but at 12mp!

A gaming phone with a punch hole and no front firing stereo, yeah no thank you. Also toning down on the rgb and removing anything that made it a gaming phone, why not delete the air triggers too on the next iteration.
It's like they've decided they have a successful brand label and can just skate by doing what every other manufacturer is doing. Defeats the whole purpose of still making "rog" phones.

The new design language introduced with the 8 looks very boring and ugly. Older was better. Even the battery capacity decreased, front firing speakers are gone and camera island looks very ugly. Overall a boring slab of glass

The earlier design language was a lot better than the one currently. The display was full and there was notification led, front speakers, bigger battery, better overall looks etc
Now it looks like a dull, boring slab of glass. The design is generic and unattractive
