      America is "cheating"
If some product have 5% America IP, and 95% other countries IP, The US can also banned it.
This is not about IP, it's about hegemony

China company have a good RISC-V expert, and also have a license to produce x86 from the deal with AMD when AMD bought the 3D stacking tech from one of China tech firm.
China company could also license the Arm architecture.

I Just Read, 6 hours agohttps://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=12643&id... moreNo OEM waits for chip to " get cheaper".
It is not like retail products that is 20, 30 or 50% off after 6 months.

Brands sign contracts with qualcomm and Mediatek.
Amount of chips wanted, price, how many batches will be given and when.
Development of 8 elite was faster than expected.
Chinese phones want to sell phones now to try to decrease interest in iphones in China.

They would not get better price if they waited until February or June to announce the phones.

Anonymous, 6 hours agoOff topic but can someone explain with the chips act and ba... moreThe ban is to stop US funded and technology with US IP to be exported to China, so ASML which is the world's largest EUV maker, is barred from exporting it's $300 chip making machine to China

But for now they are allowed to export older DUV machines to China

I wouldn't totally say that China was caught oughy, since Dutch ASML EUV has been in development since late 90s and Chinese EUV has been in development since 2007

So china probably wouldn't get their hands on EUV machine in the near term, but there are half a dozen chinese companies working on EUV technology, so they will probably get it in a decade

Things are not as dire as the unfounded with no supporting evidence regarding cost of this SoC fictionalised in an earlier rumour.

Given the number of adopters and especially the speed of this release so soon after Qualcomm.
Without any evidence whatsoever, this leads me to think that there was either no significant price increase and / or multi year discounts offered by Qualcomm

At best this SoC could be priced very near to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 or slightly above, but nowhere near the touted 20% hike which would be detrimental to sales and increase handset price.

There was no need for Xiaomi to switch supplier. Qualcomm appear to have kept market share

Anonymous, 6 hours agoOff topic but can someone explain with the chips act and ba... moreBiggest problem for Chinese at the moment are the chip making machines not the design itself.
                      Google ASML for more info.

Did y'all notice from the keynote that the snapdragon 8 elite adreno GPU has a dedicated memory of 12MB, not cache memory, GPU memory. Smartphones are beginning to have dedicated GPU memory like computers. This is exciting because it removes the bottleneck of CPU and GPU fighting over the ram memory. Now we can have a faster and efficient snapdragon SoC moreover Qualcomm’s new chip is also the first mobile SoC to bring support for Unreal Engine 5.3.The era of porting AAA pc games to android has begun, and I am here for it.

Off topic but can someone explain with the chips act and bans on producing chips that Chinese OEM phone makers get to use the latest silicon chips in their products? Maybe they aren't given the ability to make them but surely they'll reverse engineer the new chips?
