Bipolar. That was the US strategy in the face of a rising China. If they couldn't control everything, they'd split the world in two and control their half. But, personally, I think that's just wishful thinking. They'll just end up isolating themselves.

      No sideloading, nope.

I actually prefer EMUI and MagicOS over Stock Android/Pixel UI. Hell, I think OneUI and iOS are better than Stock/Pixel UI.

It looks very neat and nice. I like it. It rests to be seen if they'll achieve any significant success outside China. I think they will, only not instantly, but in a few years, slowly gaining momentum.

              They already have local dominance.
Worldwide adoption is just a cherry on the top.

Anonymous, 4 hours agoIf Nokia, Blackberry and MS couldn't do it when Androi... moreHuawei is backed by gov of China the second largest economy in the world and soon to be no.1! An army of Chinese devs are ready to develop for this operating system.

All the companies you mentioned were hopeless when their stocks went booot down (with exception to MS, but they also weren't ready to risk losing more money from a failed adventure). Nobody helped or supported them not even their govs, and therefore every dev went away from these companies abandoning their ecosystem altogether, since developing for them wasn't financially beneficial.

Besides, Huawei knows that if they release HarmonyOS internationally NOW it may fail! So they went to building the store route first, when they said only after the apps number passes the 500k mark it'll be ready to be released worldwide.

The OS will never become big outside of China, or at least in the western world because the lack of apps, simple as it is. The duopoly is hard to break, app developers have a crucial position.
