This should result in better quality shots.

quick search says thats wrong
there are many 64mpx sensors

the one in the 8a is the sony imx787 which is quite new - not found in the a71 and m31 etc. `
although another quick search found this

I cant vouch for the veracity of it though.
it makes no sense though to crop a 1.7" sensor to 2" in the pixel fold and even if you crop it - usually the specs report the original sensor size and the new pixel count. This is what happened with the first 1" phone cameras that were using 1" sensors but sneakily cropped 10% of the sensor because they couldnt make a lens that didnt stick out like a sore thumb.

    Google's ditching a 64 MP 1/1.7" old midranger cam for a newer 1/2" 48MP cam. Nice upgrade!

Yeah just cause the more expensive device have a trash camera dont mean it be better on their a series. But well these words manipulation work well on people. It's like magic with them knowing that the camera is from more expensive device

          Ditching 1/1.76" for 1/2" ?
          Almost 50% smaller.

          🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Google continues to make weird hardware choices for their phones. I highly doubt samples will look THAT much different from the 8a, but 16MP is a nice resolution bump over 12MP and it's becoming exceedingly rare nowadays considering almost no OEMs are using 64MP quad-bayer sensors for their main cameras anymore.

              That's a downgrade coming from the 8a!

In fact, this is more likely to be a downgrade rather than an upgrade.

While the Pixel 8a featured a 64-megapixel camera with a 1/1.73-inch sensor size, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold is equipped with a 48-megapixel camera with a sensor size of only 1/2-inch.

The 48 MP sensor of the Pixel 9 Pro Fold is small in 2024 standards, it's also smaller than the 64 MP sensor of the Pixel 8a, why should we be impressed?

How is this better? It's the same sensor from last year but cropped to a smaller size.

Kinda wish they'd ditch the ultrawide for a telephoto. If you're only gonna give us two cameras I'd prefer that one.
