Big leak details specs for Google Tensor G5 and G6

24 October 2024
TSMc's 3nm process nodes will bring huge performance gains for the Pixel 10 and 11 series.

Sort by:

G5 will ship in H2 2025 with Cortex-X4. This is TWO YEARS after Snapdragon 8 gen 3 shipped with X4 in October 2023.

So, Google wants to keep selling you two year old hardware, while charging premium price for it. Don't even get me started on the cam hardware they use.

No wonder their global market share is well below 2%.

G5 will be left behind this year... But the previous chips have been the same.
Let's see if at least they can improve efficiency by some margin given the move from Samsung to TSMC.

Everytime Google goes to tsmc says F you and goes back to samsung.

The only thing I like in the news is them using Imagination Technologies' GPU. They were the ones who designed the GPU for Sega's Dreamcast. And used to design them for Apple before Apple screwed them over.

It won't be a flagship-performance chip again but it's gonna be an upgrade to what they have at least. The G5 is rumored to have 1x Arm Cortex-X4 prime core, 5x Cortex-A725 performance cores and 2x Arm Cortex-A520 efficiency while the G4 has :1 core Cortex-X4 at 3100 MHz, 3 cores Cortex-A720 at 2600 MHz, and 4 cores Cortex-A520 at 1920 MHz. So multicore will see an upgrade compared to the G4. I don't think it will beat Mediatek's 9400. For reference, Mediatek's 9400 has: 1 core Cortex-X925 at 3630 MHz, 3 cores Cortex-X4 at 3300 MHz, and 4 cores Cortex-A720 at 2400 MHz.

After original Xl and 2xl that i used for couple of years, then 3a XL my last Pixel that i used as a daily driver was 5a, tried 6a for couple of weeks and give it a last chance with P7. It lasted me 3 or 4 days before i sold it and that's it.

I am still hoping the Pixel 10 series retrain some of the design of Pixel 9 non-Fold series, considering this will be a major leap in Tensor chipset, especially its camera bar visor. Because I'm not that keen with Pixel 9 Pro Fold camera island.

Pixel reminds me Huawei with Kirin 9000 and 9010. Roughly same power. Difference is that Huawei cannot use other than Chinese chips but Google can.

Their latest chipset was equal to SD888. Now whatz they will jumo to a SD 8s gen 2 perforance??? A huge leap. From mud to swamp or vice-versa .
                      Just saying.

I would like them to try 2+4+2 config. that seems the most reasonable for real life performance but benchmark warriors won't understand.

what happened to their lofty goal of designing their own chip like apple? they should forget all of this nonsense and go back to snapdragon, they cannot compete in price nor performance

Wow. Android chips are on a roll. Super powerful. Leaving apple behind... More chips to choose from. Something apple does not offer... Competition. Super excited for the first time ever to consider a Mediatek d9400 or SD 8 Elite... For my gaming phone early next year.

I don't understand google's logic. their said their focus is on day to day use usage performance with amazing user experience and AI performance while being efficiency. So, not increasing clock speed to match competitors is ok i fully agree and 3.5 GHz is more than enough but why use older cores which is minimum 10% less efficient than new cores while give at least 5% more performance and new cores released next year will be even more efficient and faster than current new cores ( all 3 cores power, performance and efficient) at same clock speed. so how does google can give better efficiency and at least needed amount of performance for 1000+ phones specially if the pixel 10 pro series start with 256 GB i m sure it will cost $1100 same price as apple and samsung and other android phone while being 2 generation behind apple and 1 gen behind samsung and other android phone both in performance and effciency. even if their use new camera sensors it wont be 1 inch for sure and even it will be a sensor released in 2023 or early 2024 (chances of 2024 sensor is 10%) for the phone which will be released in Q4 2024 for $1100 or more

As one of the biggest players in the mobile industry, why is Samsung's fab behind the other manufacturers?

The fact that it's not made at Samsung is already an achievement!
