Big leak details specs for Google Tensor G5 and G6

24 October 2024
TSMc's 3nm process nodes will bring huge performance gains for the Pixel 10 and 11 series.

X925 exist, why still X4?

Just the fab node is not everything. Chips aren't designed and then they just randomly slap it in some fab where they make it into physical thing. It doesn't work that way. Chips are designed with foundries from the very beginning. Which ultimately translates to entirely different chips. Their high level topology might be the same as in the compute cores are here and the Ai logic is there and modem goes there, but the low level stuff on transistor level such as how power is delivered, how can cores operate and at what clocks and voltages, that can be entirely different and not necessarily down to just "TSMC's nodes run cooler thus more clock". It's part of it, but smaller node may be more prone to electrical interference between transistors and may create whole different levels of problems.

To make long story short, Google fabing their chipsets at TSMC doesn't automatically solve the issues they are having. It helps, but they'll also have to design them differently and it's not a guaranteed "now we're competing with top of the line Snapdragons" just because of TSMC. People here need to understand that here because I see too often this glorification of TSMC as the Gods and saviors of everything just because of their fab nodes.

Was hoping for 2x A925 + 4x A725 + 2x A520 , but was expecting 1x A925 + 5x A725 + 2x A520 or 2x X4 + 4x A725 + 2x A520.

Google phones have always been focused on stability and security, not top of the line performance. The most important thing is efficiency, i would be happy with a pixel phone that have top of the line efficiency but not the best performance and benchmark chart topper. No one buys or should buy pixel phones for best gaming conditions.

So in short, a pixel phone with last year SD performance but top of the line efficiency would work for me and i think would work for most people

And yet Google fanboys will say pixel is the best because of no bloatware and fast updates even though their still behind in that too LMAO

Switching to tsmc process will bring it more in line with dimensity and snapdragon so its a good thing getting rid of exynos based chipsets seeing as exynos is poor to start with.

RealLifePhones, 24 Oct 2024I would like them to try 2+4+2 config. that seems the most ... more2+6 or 4+4 would be better.

G5 will ship in H2 2025 with Cortex-X4. This is TWO YEARS after Snapdragon 8 gen 3 shipped with X4 in October 2023.

So, Google wants to keep selling you two year old hardware, while charging premium price for it. Don't even get me started on the cam hardware they use.

No wonder their global market share is well below 2%.

G5 will be left behind this year... But the previous chips have been the same.
Let's see if at least they can improve efficiency by some margin given the move from Samsung to TSMC.
